I was quite concerned about Santa's inclusion, but Moffat and his team once again captured some Christmas magic.

Scanning the channel guide last night after watching the Caps implode once again, I found a listing for Doctor Who "New Earth".

Not on BBC America.

But on Disney XD.

I'm not sure if I should be excited or terrified.

Well, actually, if I were going to try to hook a new audience of primarily young guys, Tennant's Doctor and Rose would be pretty good bait. My youngest got interested when I suggested he give The Girl in the Fireplace a try.

He's cool without being outright Matt Smith looney and Billie Piper has the look and attitude most teen and tween boys find appealing.

Ditto - I was actually able to somehow convince my wife we needed a new TV w/3D and a 3D Bluray, even though my sole interest was watching The Day of the Doctor...and I don't have a single regret.

I have a 3d projector, partly for that reason ;)

I would concede to watching out of the house if it were a drive-in double feature, with red+green 3d glasses... That would truly be awesome

Another day, another trailer for the new series.

obviously it's a preview of something nobody has seen yet, so potentially there are spoilers, if you don't want them, don't press play.

So my #2 offspring and I are geeking out, heading to the Columbia MD AMC theater with our Dark Water/Death in Heaven tickets in hand for Tuesday night. We slog through rush hour traffic to get there an hour early. And then find out that particular theater has cancelled the showing because they couldn't get the projection to work properly.

Are you kidding me?????????

The new season if off and running in full stride. PLUS the Sunday Baker (09/20) gives an opportunity to learn some history that comes in handy.

Well indeed.

It's kinda weird, aside from the Christmas special I'm all caught up because they put the first episode of the season on youtube. The cruelty is that they probably won't put the second.

Not happy about the new choice being female. I have been a fan since the days of Tom Baker. So the fans of the new series are probably more tolerant of this change, than those of use that have be true believers for far longer.
The new series seems more concerned with political and current affairs and far less about sciency things...

I too cut my teeth back in the early 1980's when the Baker episodes were run late Saturday night on the local PBS station.

But I've been willing to go along with the re-boot and while I tend to have a knee-jerk to change, I've found that I end up embracing it warts and all.

The Capaldi run has been a personal challenge, as I found some story lines...stupid....much for the reasons you cite. And yet this season with Bill and Nardol I think they found the right mix for him.

As for the political/social aims, I seem to recall there were none-too-subtle themes addressing issues through the original series as well.

All in all I'm OK with the newest regeneration to come. It may work well and if it doesn't, we've always got Baker reruns.

I don't remember any specific political massages, beyond the typical war bad, science good, religion bad, etc. But the current series just seems a little more preachy and specific at times.
As far as changing the canon, I am not a fan of basing something on one thing, but calling it something else.
Twilight is a perfect example of destroying a mythos. Not to mention the whole can't regenerate past 12 doctors. Have they properly addressed this? That was the basis for the Master and his insanity.

I would be more okay with a prequel to doctor who, taking place on galifrey and showing the mischief that he got into as a young adult...

Yeah, they did in the last Matt Smith episode The Time Of The Doctor:

Why did The Time Lords give The Doctor a new regeneration cycle?

I didn't dip my toe in that pool because to some that was an unsatisfactory reworking of canon, while to others it was a clever way to reset the clock on a limitation.

In my opinion, what writers from the original run would have ever anticipated the series to last (much less be revived) beyond the original limit of regenerations?

I am fine with the result. Hell - now we're on our second Doctor from this cycle. I doubt they're plotting out the 3rd set of regenerations already.

Tennant was my first. Adore him. Then I watched all the new Who episodes and fell hopelessly for The Doctor, no matter who plays him. My fave is Matt Smith and second, Capaldi. Saw him in SF at a con a few months ago. Delightful!! My fave companions were Donna and Bill, then Amy/Rory. Looking forward to Christmas and to our new Doctor. Will miss Peter Capaldi. Heaven Sent/Hell Bent were genius and breathtaking.
