• FULL 5Gbps NEEDS A USB 3.2 GEN 2 (10Gbps) PORT: Plug into a USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C port and connect to a 5GbE router/switch with a CAT6a (or better) cable to reach the full 5Gbps. On a USB 3.0 / 3.1 Gen 1 (5Gbps) port, expect around 2.5Gbps — still a big jump over standard Gigabit.
• TRUE MULTI-GIG, AUTO-NEGOTIATING: Automatically connects at 5GbE, 2.5GbE, 1GbE, or 100Mbps to match your network — 802.3bz / 5GBASE-T compliant, backward compatible with all your existing gear. Great for faster NAS access, file transfers, streaming, and low-latency work.
• DETECTED BUT NO CONNECTION? UPDATE THE DRIVER FIRST: Windows 10/11 and macOS are driver-free. If Windows sees the adapter but the link is missing or slow, run Windows Update to pull the current Realtek driver, then restart — that clears most no-connection reports. While you test, plug straight into the computer's USB-C port rather than through an unpowered hub or adapter chain. Linux needs a kernel with a recent Realtek r8157 driver. The newest drivers are on the manufacturer's website, and support can help before you return it.
• USB-C ONLY, AND WIRED ONLY — CHECK BEFORE YOU BUY: This is a wired Ethernet adapter with an integrated USB-C cable — it does NOT add WiFi and it is NOT a cellular 5G/LTE modem; you connect it to a router, switch, or NAS with a network cable. It needs a data-capable USB-C port (USB 3.x / USB4 / Thunderbolt) and will not work on power-only (charge-only) USB-C ports. Supported systems: Windows 10/11, macOS, and Linux with a recent Realtek r8157 kernel driver.
• ALUMINUM BUILD, RTL8157CG CHIPSET: A rugged aluminum housing doubles as a heatsink for stable performance during long transfers. Powered by the Realtek RTL8157CG controller. Bus-powered (no external power) with LED indicators: green = 5GbE, amber = lower speed.
