Good, reliable back-up
By muso steve on Reviewed in the United States on March 20, 2025
I have been using Cyber Power UPSs for several years now - moved away from APC because they reliably fail after 3-4 years (just after the warranty expires). The tower versions are very nice because the outlets are well spaced and easy to route the AC wires around/away from the unit. I highly recommend download and using the Power Panel software (I use the free "Personal" version). It tracks events (power glitches to full outages) and keeps history, so you can see when events happened even if you were not present.

Poorly designed battery failure mode. Poor non-windows software support
By James on Reviewed in the United States on February 15, 2020
I've had almost no issues with my CP800AVR until just this week. I purchased the unit about 2 and a half years ago. The power went out and instead of switching to battery like it's done in the past, it shut down the battery backup outlets and beeped. I turned off the unit. After the power came back on, I turned it back on and... none of the battery backup outlets powered back up! It beeped at me but that's it. After researching, it seems like this is how these things are designed to handle a dead battery. But there's no indicator on the unit showing the battery state and the last time I checked the battery in the CyberPower software (which doesn't run under linux) the battery was fine. This sucks! Even with a dead battery, the unit should still be able to pass power through to the outlets. APC units I've used in the past could be used as power strips even if the battery was dead. It's stupid to have: 1. A surprise outage with zero warning because the unit doesn't switch to battery 2. A surprise outage extension because the unit doesn't turn on even after the power comes back on I'm disappointed. I took a chance going with CyberPower and if I could go back, I would purchase an APC unit as I've had 3 of those in the past with none of these types of issues. I've opened a support ticket to see what they say. EDIT: Two and a half more years went by... Annnnd it happened again. Last time, they said the battery needed to be replaced. This thing is finally going to e-waste.
