Logitech Z323 Speaker System with Subwoofer

[Initially I gave this product 3/5 stars; see update below] These speakers are decent. I wanted a pair to listen to music during the day when I didn't feel like wearing headphones. They're not terrible, but they're not spectacular, either. The sound quality is good until you turn it up to what I would be considered medium-to-higher level and then it seems like the mid-range overtakes the low and high frequencies -- making it sound kind of muddy. The construction seems pretty solid .. cords feel good, knobs don't feel cheap. Only complaints I have with the exterior is that they the satellite speakers are SUPER glossy plastic which show smudges, scratches, etc. and will no doubt look really dated once that trend is over. Also I really don't like the main volume knob (which is also the on/off toggle -- turn past MIN to click to off) because it's smooth and glossy plastic like the housing, AND it's tapered (sort of like a cone) so it's not as easy as it should be to grab and turn. Seems like a boneheaded design decision. These replaced a pair of Altec Lansing 2.1 speakers that I had for like eight years. The Z323's cost me about twice as much as those did back then, and the sound quality is not as good. I probably should have tried these out in a store first and then I would have chosen something else. But I'll keep them .. they get the job done. - UPDATE May 11th, 2010 - I can't stand these things anymore; they're getting replaced. Changed my rating to 1/5 stars, because now I have to do more research and throw away these $60 pieces of garbage. Sad panda. :(
