PS3 Gamers Review.

I play my PS3 pretty often, along with a lot of screen time with my macbook pro as I am a college student. Before these glasses my eyes would be blood shot red after 5 plus hours on any screen (I also have 20/20 vision, just strains my eyes when I have to look at an LCD screen for too long, but any other real life activities have no effect on my vision, so I am convinced it is only caused by the over exposure to LCD (LED) screens.) I was a total skeptic when it came to these glasses and I put them off for the longest time (for about a year), but when my eyestrains began to intensify and gave me bad headaches, I began to look for an alternative. After reaading many testimonials I took a leap and just bought these, and I have to say THANK YOU GUNNAR! My eyes never strain anymore, my vision seems to be alot better when looking at LCD screens, and the glasses even appear to add a level of definition to High Definition itself. They make the pictures colors pop more and give them a slight graphic boost allowing you to full enjoy what ever you are viewing. While playing my PS3, I would get a type of tunnel vision where I could not scan the screen while playing to see my surroundings to well, and it would make me a little woozy, but these things keep my focus level up and on high alert as they give a slight magnification to go along with the clarity that allows you to scan all areas of the screen, making you prepared for any situation which is great! And for all the skeptics out there, don't make the same mistake I did, your eyes are something that you are going to use for the rest of your life, and even though the price tag is a little hefty, these glasses are worth every penny! You can't put a price on headache free gaming with improved comfort for maximum performance conditions for your eyes! Thats just my little rant, I believe every gamer should have these, they are the real deal.

Really wanted to be able to use them

I'm a Software Developer for one of those giant mega-corps and I bought these because I found myself suffering from a lot of eye strain at work. Especially when wearing contacts instead of glasses, my workplace is quite bright and that - combined with focusing on small text all day - gets exhausting. A note about my specific setup: I use two 29" ultrawide monitors, side by side, in portrait mode for a total screen area of about 22.6" x 26.7". That means that the distance from my eyes to the center of the screen is a LOT shorter than the distance from my eyes to one of the edges. This is important context for my review, as you'll see. With that out of the way, let's talk about the pros: The tinting is fantastic and does a great job of filtering the fluorescent lighting overhead and the brightness from the large screen surface. The slight magnification also makes text on a screen really "pop". Even small fonts at the far top and bottom edges of my screens were crystal clear and easy to read. When I first put on the glasses, I was thrilled at how much of a difference they made. Had I written this review right then, it'd be 5/5 "Would buy again!" But, unfortunately, that didn't turn out to be the case. Here's why: After wearing the glasses for about 10-15 minutes, I started to experience severe nausea and a headache. It felt quite similar to motion sickness or snow blindness. I had to take the glasses off and it took a little while to recover. I tried them again several times over the course of the day and each time would start to feeling sick after just a few minutes of wearing them. I even tried again the next day with the same results. So what happened? I'm not really sure. I rarely, if ever, suffer from motion sickness. I can play first-person games for hours, read books in the car, etc, without any problems. So it seemed strange that these glasses would make me so ill. One thing that I did notice was that I tended to be fine so long as I was only working in one section of my monitor, such as the browser window I keep in the middle of my left monitor. As soon as I started using things at the top or bottom, it'd rapidly start feeling sick. So I suspect that it's the magnification combined with constantly changing the distance I was focusing at. Ultimately, they just didn't end up being wearable for me and I had to return them. Your experience may well differ. In fact, I would still recommend trying these if you have a more standard monitor configuration. But if you have a particularly large monitor setup, or have to regularly look away from your monitor for other things, I'd recommend trying something else.

I was a fairly big skeptic about the idea of tinted glasses having a marked improvement on eye fatigue and gaming prowess, so I had stayed away from Gunnar glasses for a while. However, as a law student, I spend hours upon hours staring at computer screens, some of which I do not own and are of sub-par quality. I noticed my eyes were starting to suffer fatigue and strain symptoms -- tiring out and losing focus; drying out; headaches, etc. As such, I decided to pick up these Gunnar glasses on a whim, since I'd rather spend some money now on the off chance that they could alleviate optical problems before they became really expensive in the long-haul. I was surprised that these glasses actually do have an effect on reducing eye fatigue and improving my ability to distinguish movement in games. The effect is not miraculous, but it is noticeable. I do like the glasses and do not regret purchasing them. However, there are a number of cheaper solutions out there that would provide equal or greater benefits to eye-strain. Suggestions follow below the product details. The glasses themselves are very lightweight and can be used both for gaming and for general computing. As others have mentioned, the arm bands are exceptionally thin and feel very flimsy. They have held up well and seem strong enough, but the thin stamped metal -- which is maybe half the thickness of a credit card -- just feels cheap for a seventy-dollar product. The thin bands are supposed to help in sliding these glasses under an audio gaming headset, but there is enough space between the arm and my temple that a little extra thickness could have easily been managed. Additionally, I had to use pliers to adjust the nose piece to fit my face comfortably. Not being able to try on styles, I had to go with what looked closest to my sunglasses. They fit well enough on the face following adjustment, but the nose-piece pinched until I bent out the nose rest several centimeters to accommodate. The lenses are fairly prone to fingerprints, but they aren't particularly worse than any other plastic lens. The tint is distinctively yellow. You can see under fluorescent light how the blue wavelengths are reflected while allowing other spectra to pass through. The yellow tint is noticeable for about the first 20 minutes of gaming or typing, but eventually your brain tries to adjust like when using swim goggles. I never found myself getting completely accustomed to the yellow tint; certain games felt wrong to screw up the color palette, so I tend to use the glasses only on shooters or other games where I'm not paying attention to the visuals or realism. The lenses also feature a very slight magnification. I find the magnification is helpful if I am tired. If I am not tired, however, the magnification is somewhat disorienting since it warps your field of vision unevenly. It also makes these glasses unsuitable for wearing outside of gaming or computing. Ultimately I find myself not wearing these glasses more often than I do wearing them. They can be helpful, and they do work. However, for $70, I've found that there are a number of other improvements you can make that will significantly improve your optical health. First, and most importantly, drop your backlight according to your ambient light. Most people leave their monitors blasting at factory settings which boosts the backlight in order to show off the color palette. A bright backlight looks prettier than a dim one, but it's murder on your eyes. Rather than have to buy these glasses to filter out that harsh blue fluorescent light, just turn it down and you'll see tons of improvement. Looking at your computer monitor should be no brighter than looking at a book page in the same ambient light. Second, invest in a better monitor. LED monitors, especially IPS monitors, will significantly improve your eyestrain as compared to older monitors. I found after upgrading one of my dual-screens to an IPS display that the other, older LCD was miserable to look at. Third, improve your ambient light setup. Either get some LEDs to stick behind your monitor to create an ambient wall glow for dark surroundings or set up something that can match daylight patterns. Bright monitors will screw up your circadian rhythm which can cause significant fatigue. Try to balance the light around your monitor with the light your monitor is giving off, and you'll find your eyes will be much less fatigued and headaches won't happen anymore. Although ambient light sounds like an anathema to computer monitors and gaming, I've found it has significantly improved my vision to where I barely ever need the Gunnars.
They kill the color.

These were a big disappointment for me. I got somewhat used to them which may be a bright side but only if I'm playing the game competitively and not enjoying it. It is difficult to enjoy a game with these because they kill the color. It's a shade of yellow and the beauty of the newer games are lost, it's like throwing a blanket over them. When I was in repetitive levels where I didn't care much for the scenery anymore they helped my eye strain once I got used to them, but it was a big downer to see that they took away the thing I love about new games the most, the beauty of them. They work hard on graphics and these glasses sort of kill the graphics, but they do help with eye strain when you get used to them. I definitely felt a difference once I was used to them, but at first it made it worse and I felt dizzy. You don't want to walk around with them or use them inside the house or outside, just when you look at the screen they can help, otherwise they can make you want to throw up. I was in the middle of 2 or 3 but decided on 3 stars because it did help my eyestrain once I was used to them. I just wasn't expecting the tint to hurt the graphics so much.

after owning these glasses for 6 months i can honestly say i prefer the cheap 15 dollar gamma ray glasses i had before. The Gunnar's have really nice lenses, but the frame is garbage. Cheap thinly stamped metal with plastic covers that slide over the metal make it so the glasses are light. however, they constantly dig into your head (which actually cause headaches for me). the adjustment of the plastic covers make no difference. they are just all around uncomfortable because of the frame. kicking myself for not returning them immediately. The comfort does not get better. i realized this when i put my gamma ray's back on for the first time recently. Their cheap plastic frame is thicker and more rounded which makes the glasses way more comfortable.
A must for anyone who spends every day in front of the PC. esp. with multiple displays.

I have 3 screens on my home computer and 3 screens now on my work PC. I started to get headaches and heavy eye fatigue to the point that any viewing of any LCD (including even TV) was irritating. I have a friend who has had a pair of these for years as he is also on a computer all day at work (CAD work) and games on the off hours and he recommended them. I made the leap after trying things unsuccessfully such as turning all my monitors to minimum brightness and immediately could tell a difference with these on. The sheer amount of light from 3 screens was still intense but it no longer made me cringe from being photosensitive if you will. after a few days of use i could look at LCD screens again without them on, but a full day in front of a PC without them still hurts. I will be buying them again for work in the very near future. I wear them sometimes at home now in front of the TV if i have spent all day at work without them. Im in my late 20's and have been in front of PC's every day almost since i was a kid. My job requires it and my pastimes revolve around it. with migrating to multiple monitors on all of my computers in the last few years, it just became too much strain. One screen helps, turning the brightness down helps, but that only treats the symptoms. If you are in front of monitors all day everyday, pick one of the models that suits your style, and go for it. If you currently can barely stand to look at an LCD, then pay for express shipping on these. You will be thankful you did. These are certainly worth the price for what they do, but they are also high quality as well. they are incredibly light weight, but do NOT feel cheap at all. the frame flexes very easily, but never 'bends'. My toddler has hit me in the face with toys and his head a few times while wearing these (he likes to sit in my lap and watch what i do) , and so far no damage or scratches. They ARE however, fingerprint, sweat, and dust magnets like no tomorrow. I would recommend purchasing the matching cleaning kit and hard case as well. You cannot seem to wipe fingerprints off easily with like a shirt or something like you usually can with sunglasses and such, it just smears, I assume this is due to whatever coatings are on these. The cleaning kit you can get for these does an excellent job of restoring them to like new clarity.
Was a Skeptic. Now a Fan.

I was definitely a skeptic about the claims of these glasses. I can't live without flux on my PC (it automatically adjusts monitor warmth/coolness depending on time of day to reduce screen glare), so I understood in principle why these glasses work (by providing an amber overlay). On the other hand, the reason why I wear contacts is because I hate wearing glasses. But I was definitely intrigued by the light-weight frame and the cool designs, and Amazon had it on sale, so I figured I would spring for it. Let's just say I'm now a fan. I'm both a gamer and work all day in front of the computer. For me, the biggest difference has been in software applications with predominantly white backgrounds--that's pretty much all of them. My eyes are less tired. The slight magnification helps with reading text, and I find that I can concentrate better because I'm not distracted by strain in my eyes. And the frame is indeed light-weight and bothers me less than my prescription glasses (which I wear when the contacts are bothering me). In fact, I've just ordered a second pair because I don't want to carry the glasses with me to and from work. Now I'll have one pair for work and one pair for home. Given how much time I spend in front of the computer, it's money well spent.
They just make everything yellow

This product is a gimmick. I was hoping it'd relieve my eye strain when staring at the computer for hours. It just makes everything yellow and creates an annoying glare from my LCD. There's a slight magnifying effect which is uncomfortable if anything. The frames are too big for my face, and I was boggled that this $80 pair of sunglasses didn't even come with a hard case.. instead it came with a sock to keep them in. How's that for protecting your fragile investment? Save your money..

I never thought I'd actually buy a pair of the mythical "Gunnar" glasses, but I'm very happy that I did. I've been looking the Gunnar glasses over for the last couple years never being able to actually spring to buy a pair of them. I've heard so many Mixed reviews I was never sure if it'd be a waste of money or not. To say the least. . . I am not disappointed at all and very happy that I did buy them. I work in the IT field and Spend between 9-10 hours a day staring at multiple monitors, often times I'd go home with my eyes burning and had actually switched to a normal pair of glasses with anti-glare material to help. They helped some but my eyes still felt tired and burned by the end of the day. The glasses are interesting in the way they sit on my face, way up on my face so much my eyebrows at times will touch the actual lenses depending on my facial expression(mostly happens when I'm furrowing my brow), but the thing I love most about this frame is it wraps around my face so that barely any of my vision isn't covered by the filtered view from the glasses. The glasses themselves take some time to get used to, and not everyone gets used to them as I have a coworker who purchased a pair and returned them after a week of wearing them. The difference is actually a little mind boggling, My eyes don't feel tired anymore after a standard work day, but If I do go longer than the standard shift they do start feeling tired again and the burning does return. The headaches that I used to get as well have almost all but stopped as well which is a great thing. So overall, these things are fantastic for me, will you see the same results? Unfortunately there's no way to guarantee this as it seems that everyone has different level of reaction to them. They're pricey yes but for me they've been worth every penny so far. I've even recommended them to the other guys in my department since we're all here for roughly the same period of time in front of the computers just as much. -----------------------2/3/2014 A small side note after wearing the Gunnar's for quite a few months now while working is that for the first 20-30 seconds after taking the glasses off my eyes are almost overwhelmed by the blue light that isn't being filter back by the glasses. It's a little disorientating and once it wears off I'm fine and can continue on my way without an issue. The Glasses are holding up quite well and are in better shape than my day to day glasses.
No more eyestrain

I'm a gamer and a student so I look at TV and computer screens a lot because some of my classes are online. Lately I started experiencing eyestrain after only several minutes of exposure to a computer or TV screen. My eyes would get bloodshot and become really painful. I tries eye drops, leaving lights on whenever I was being exposed, openign windows all the tricks I read about for eyestrain but nothing helped. I decided to try these glasses out and am very happy with them so far. I noticed right out of the box they are incredibly lightweight, some people complained about this as I saw and said they felt flimsy. I don't think that they glasses feel anymore flimsy and cheap than any other plastic framed glasses that you get. I actually feel they are more durable than sunglasses. Not that I suggest sitting on them or smashing them. I also have had problems wearing glasses in the past because I had a closed fracture on my nose several years ago when a driver of a vehicle I was in rolled it. Ever since anytime I wear any glasses I get really bad migraines because they put pressure on where the break was at. These ones; never any problem (not sure how many other people will have the same issue but if someone has the same issue as I do these should be good for you as well). As other reviewers have said they do create a minor magnification, it isn't much though and the yellow tint hasn't bothered me either. You adjust to the tint quickly. The only come so far is that they kind of hurt the tops of my ears if worn for the long periods of time, I figure it's probably because of the style I bought but these ones had the nose guard that I felt would help with migraine issues. I do get used to the ear issues fast probably because I get so distracted by my work I don't notice it for long. Pros: Helps with eyestrain considerably Magnifies a little Looks sleek and cool Feel like better construction than sunglasses Lightweight Cons: Sometimes causes irritation to tops of ears No cleaning cloth included Only cheapo cloth bag included for storage (for price couldn't include a hard case???)
