More functions than you'll need but still easy to use.

Industry standard calculator with a lot of functions - more than I need in my daily work or for my CFP study! The documentation for how to use it is very clear, and there are a lot of tutorials online as well if you need them. The size is good and the display is clear and easy to read.

Spend a few dollars more on the 17B II+

I regret buying this calculator. I should have bought a used 17B II+ on ebay for less than I paid for a new 10B II+. The 10B does calculator things but it does them in the cheapest way possible. I believe Royal makes these under license for HP. Even when this calculator was introduced circa 1987 it must have been seen as the cheap way to do the functions offered by the 17B. The question is, why buy this over a 17B II+ today? Sure the 10B works as a calculator, if you can remember the data entry flow. Why have one shift key when you can have two! A design rooted in keeping cost down. Giving each key 3 functions was less expensive than a dot matrix LCD display (how the 17B works). IF the 10B is the calculator you learned on in the 80's and love it for nostalgia reasons, sure buy another. For anybody trying to learn TVM or CFLO I suggest skipping the 10B II+ and buying the 17B II+ for a little bit more $. The 17B is far more intuitive. The 10B's display is the least expensive 7 segment type of LCD possible. I believe that this calculator only exists today because it was more common in the 80's and 90's when it was cheaper than the more sophisticated 17B. Both designs are from the 1980's but the 17B always had a two line dot matrix display allowing the 6 keys below the display to vary functions based on the mode of the calculator. Most keys on the 17B have just one function.
