Very nice speakers, need to work out the audio controls
By Agouta on Reviewed in the United States on October 1, 2013
This is the first time I purchased a gaming headset before, but these do the trick. After unpacking and plugging them in, I went to the Razer site and registered them, which led me to the Razer Synapse Configurator. The software downloaded and then began to set up the surround sound. During game sessions they sound really nice; the bass feels low and the positioning of objects behind and to the side sound very accurate. The microphone work very well; several calls via Skype, Google chat and Ventrilo have come out crisp when I asked friends. My only problem may be more of a personal one, in which my laptop's sound no longer works if I disconnect the headset and go in and change the playback settings (from Speakers and Headphones to Razer Audio Control). After getting used to it this has become a minor nuisance at best, and later I will probably ask a friend how to get that in order. Overall, this headset is pretty darn good.

Great head set

So, this is an update to my previous post. Previously I said I enjoyed the headset, and I did. Though I've also learned a lot. So first, lets go through the things I like. Then I'll say why I only gave it 1 star, and what I think is the better alternative. Pros 1. Braided Cord - This makes it nice and strong, and it looks pleasing 2. Cord Length - The cord is very long. This was a plus for me but some people might be annoyed by this. I had to bundle part of it up and zip tie it, just because of the length. 3. Looks - It looks awesome as far as a lot of gaming headsets go. It really has a stealth kind of appeal. 4. Comfort - It is pretty comfortable to wear. With the complete ear cover, I enjoy this. That was nice. It fits pretty perfectly. The ear muff parts are really comfortable too. Some people say they start to wear and peel but I didn't notice this, and they didn't get hot ether. I found them quite comfortable. I do live in an area that is cold most of the year. We have about a month and a half of summer and it isn't bad. Depending on the area you live in, it could be pretty hot I guess. Arizona, Florida, etc. I still don't think it would be bad, I just think that climate in general would be miserable. Regardless of the headset you buy. 5. The Mic does retract, which is a neat feature. Notice I didn't say it's a good feature, I said neat. I'll discuss the mic more later. 6. Price - it isn't a bad price. The price is actually good. It's affordable for most people and cheaper now then when I bought it. Now, lets talk about the reasons I didn't like it. Not everything had to do with the device, a lot of it had to do the customer service of Razer, which is usually good. The Bad 1. Build Quality - The plastic that this is made out of is actually a brittle plastic. Why do I say this? I had the headset on my head, went to pull the Mic out, and it broke at the joint on the ear phone. It literally snapped in half in this area. I couldn't just use plastic clue and some cleverness to reattach it, because it was at the joint. The way these are made is for some give to fit your head, the joint allows a little bit of give/rotation. 2 stars were removed for this. 2. The Mic - The Mic isn't horrible, but it is bad. Part of the reason it's bad is because it doesn't have a noise cover it. No noise cover means it's going to literally pick up everything in the room. This isn't a big deal really, most people use push to talk. Though if you don't use push to talk, everything is heard. Your air conditioner, your breathing, it sounds like a hurricane (at least that is what I was told). This is an easy thing to solve. All you need is the material from stockings. A small piece, and some tape to shape it to fit snugly. It helps to shield a lot of noise out. Razer could include 3 or 4 of these, or something like this, to pop over it. Which would remove this complaint. Though when these are on you cannot put the Mic in, you have to take it off. I found myself leaving the Mic out most of the time anyway. I will say the Mic quality isn't "Good", I'll rate the quality of the Mic as fair. People should know when buying an all in one headset you aren't getting the good of ether, you're getting "fair" for earphones and a Mic, put together. You're paying for the benefit of them being together, not for good quality of ether. Some gamers made an attachable Mic that you attach to any earphones. I believe it's around 40 dollars. It's quite good in quality and build and it attaches well, this is the way I would go now. A very nice Mic for a fair price. 1 star for this was removed. 3. Customer Service - Having to deal with people who don't speak English, and doing this mainly through Email. People that want so many pictures. I mean, over 20 pictures. How many different ways can you take a picture of a broken ear phone? Normally if it's under warranty, you provide a detailed explanation (I did), pictures (I did, more then 20), answer questions (did this too), yet they always wanted more. I ended up giving up on it, after a few weeks. 1 star has been removed for this, but it should be more. Customer service should speak, type, and read well. If you follow proper procedure for warranty replacement, it should be fufilled. It's that simple. Anyway, that is my review after owning the headset for under a year and it breaking.
