VIVO Dual Monitor Desk Mount Stand

I used this mount for two 32" monitors. I was concerned that descriptions of such stands supporting "up to 32 in" monitors might mean they support 32" monitors in a straight line only. I didn't see any reviews of such mounts that clearly said two 32" monitors could be mounted together *and* be angled toward the user. Thus, I looked for one to support bigger monitors. The design is of a pretty normal, adjustable, dual-monitor mount. However, I must compare it with a WALI mount I had with my previous 24" monitors. Here are the features: * Both mounts offer brackets that attach to the VESA mount with screws which are slipped down over small metal plates on the ends of the arms, secured with an acorn nut. That design makes it relative easy to attach the monitor to the end of the arms. (Imagine otherwise having a VESA mount on the ends of the arms and having to hold up a monitor while screwing the mount to the back of the monitor.) * The VIVO has spring loaded attachment plates on the ends of the arms, while the WALI provides no spring to help offset the weight of the monitor to keep it from tipping down. The WALI relies on loosening and tightening a hex screw to provide enough friction while, ideally, allowing the user to tilt the monitor. * Both mounts have the same number of joints in the arms. * Both mounts offer clamp or grommet attachment. (I used the grommet mount, which required drilling a hole and putting a bolt up through the hole from beneath.) * Both mounts offer cable guides on the arms and one on the pole. There are significant quality differences between the two, however: * The thumb screws to attach the VESA mounting plate for the VIVO have plastic tops with Phillips head slots on the end. By contrast, the WALI has metal machine screws enclosed by plastic bumpers. The significant point is that the screwdriver tears up the plastic heads on the VIVO screws and using the knurled edges doesn't work well when trying to make them tight, while the WALI metal screws are easy to tighten with a screwdriver. * Many of the VESA mount screws for the VIVO had bad threads. That made it much more likely to tear up the plastic heads. I used the screws from the WALI mount instead. They all had properly machined threads. * The threads on the bolt that secures the pole through the hole in the desk, or the threads inside the pole, were not machined correctly, so screwing the bolt far enough into the pole to make the mount tight was very difficult. (No, I didn't cross-thread it.) What's more, the attached handle is awkward to turn while holding the support plate in place under the desk (not to mention being hard to use when the threads were faulty). By contrast, the WALI uses a hex head bolt, so one can use a socket to tighten it easily while holding the support plate in place. * The support plate used under the desk for grommet mounting is surprisingly small on the VIVO. It is much smaller than the plate provided with the WALI. The softer the wood of the desk, the more this matters. The VIVO plate would be more likely to cut into soft wood. * Every adjustment point of the VIVO arms is stiff and I was unable to loosen any of the screws to address that. (I was bending the included hex wrench trying to loosen the adjustment screws!) By contrast, the WALI screws were easy to adjust. For example, pushing one monitor farther back rotates the arms on the pole, despite making the clamp on the pole very tight, all because the joint close to the pole is very tight. * The cable management clips on the VIVO are stiff plastic. Those on the WALI are more flexible. The stiff plastic might prove brittle over time, or it may not be significant. In the end, the mount is holding up my monitors and, with some struggle, I've gotten them positioned where I want them. However, if I decide to adjust them further, it will be another struggle. Had I been able to trust that the WALI mount for 32" monitors would allow them to be angled and not just arranged in a straight line, I would have purchased that. Overall, I'm quite disappointed in this mount and would think long and hard before buying another of this brand. I should also mention that the elbows of the support arms extend about 8" behind the pole when the monitors touch just in front of the pole. That means I must pull my desk farther from the wall. A mount designed for 32" monitors would not extend so far behind the pole.
