Toner that works

Came as expected without issues. Printer took it, and hasn’t complained about toner since. Product works.

Poor support!
By J. Elliott on Reviewed in the United States on February 28, 2025
Do not order before your old cartridge is nearly dead! I knew that I was getting near the the end of lifespan on my TN660 cartridge, so I ordered a genuine Brother replacement to have on hand. The old cartridge lasted a bit over 3 months of very light printing, maybe 10 pages per week, at most. I installed the new cartridge, and even as the printer turned back on it started squeal. And when printing, the more pages being printed, the louder it got. I used all the Brother FAQ tips on re-seating the cartidge, etc. and the diagnostic advice to take the cartridge out of the drum holder and just install the drum without a toner cartridge, to see if the noise was from the drum or the cartridge. No noise with the cartridge removed! As a further test I ordered a new TN660, installed it, and everything was fine.So I called customer support at Brother, since I was past the Amazon return date. I ended up on the phone AND chat support for over 30 minutes waiting to see which one answered first (Are Brother products having that many problems???). Chat was the winner and I explained the issues. They agreed the cartridge was defective, and wanted a photo of the cartridge serial number and Amazon invoice. I provided them, and they said that the cartridges only had a 90 day warranty, despite being defective right out of the box, so I was out of luck. I asked how I was supposed to not interrupt having a printer if I had to wait until a toner cartridge died, as it was difficult to predict an end date. They said I should use their automatic replacement service so they would be shipped to me in advance of failure! There was no meaningful answer when I asked how that would solve any problems, as I wouldn't necessarily have the old cartridge die before the auto-ship cartridge had been in my possession over 90 days. "That is the best we can offer for a solution"! The Brother cartridges are 2-3 times more expensive than the knock-off no name substitutes, but I bought them to avoid the type of issues described above. Apparently Brother doesn't care about service - their web site even displays that service delays should be expected because they have gone to remote work. If I can't get good service, or reliable replacement parts for what has been a great printer for well over 10 years (MFCL2740DW), then I will have to consider alternate brands when this one finally gives up the ghost. And I will probably start buying after market toner and drums, as the poor service and lack of support by Brother doesn't justify the huge price difference for using genuine factory parts.
