+1 as perfect choice for programmers
By Tim Rawcliffe on Reviewed in the United States on June 8, 2015
Really excited about this monitor. I had been looking forward to this thing since first reading about its APAC release late last year. This upgrade is taking the place of 2 other screens I had previously had in my mancave/game play/dev/programming haven. I previously had a 48'' Samsung 1080p LED TV (~ 2010 or so.. ), and a 27 '' Apple Cinema Display . Previously I didn't think monitors could get any better than that 27'' Apple Cinema Display, but I am LOVING this upgrade. Going from the 1440p of the ACD to the 2160p of the Philips is astounding. I have been casually eyeing 4k monitors since the release of that main Samsung 28'' model that everyone has. That thing is absolutely great, but you can't really take advantage of the desktop space provided by 2160p if you are on a screen that small. The colors are definitely notably more "cool" on the Philips than the near-reference color reproduction on the Apple Cinema Display. I think this could be a deal breaker for someone who sensitive to that stuff. I think I definitely wouldn't want the two monitors used side by side as the differences would be a bit too much. That said, used on its own, I think the colors still look great, they just have that "cool" feel to them. Full screen video looks amazing. Games look amazing. Looked up some recommended color settings on the internet and I was good to go. Tech stuff: My GTX 680 at home had no problem doing 4k60hz over Display Port, ( you do need to set the display options to use Display Port 1.2 in the menu, like a lot of others have reported ). My Nvidia Quadro 5000 at work however ( a much pricier graphics card!! ) could only push the display at 30 hz.. If you are buying this thing, you want to make sure you are getting 60hz. Even just using the desktop at 30hz feels subtly painful. If you are thinking of using HDMI2.0 for this, just do your homework on your graphics card to make sure it will all work. Then again, if you are buying this instead of a 4k Samsung TV for monitor use, you are probably doing it at least somewhat because this thing supports display port ( which will get you 4k60 with much older hardware ). Game stuff: I wasn't really planning on running a load of games at 4k on my somewhat modest GTX 680, but I fired up Far Cry 3 for a minute and was able to get like 20 fps on ultra with 4k.. Wouldn't play through the whole game like that I don't think, but it was amazing to see the detail on objects super far in the distance. Really cool. Looking forward to playing more game at 4k once I upgrade graphics cards later this year or next year. Besides that, I will be playing mostly just at 1080p on ultra and blow it up for the most part. I also occasionally fire up the ol' PS4 in the office ( what the 48'' Samsung was used pretty much exclusively for ), this thing looks great doing that job as well. There are some super cool Picture in Picture settings on this monitor as well. You can display a bunch of 1080p inputs at the same time side by side or on top of each other. It works great, but the menu on the monitor used to turn it on / off is a little unwieldy. It works, just makes you work for it a bit. Display lag: the negatives that people might mention about this monitor usually have to do with its VA panel. Some people don't like the color reproduction ( others swear that VA panels like this give the best color reproduction ), that is a bit subjective, but what isn't is the display lag that comes with a VA panel. Here is the jist: this thing on paper has worse display lag than a lot of other monitors, but that number on paper is still super low in the grand scheme of things. I think the display lag is like 30ms or something, which is high compared to a lot of other computer monitors ( some of which have like 4ms display lag ), but its pretty low if you compare it to 4k Televisions ( which I did a lot of research on and purchased earlier this year, so I was familiar ). Basically, I am pretty sensitive to this stuff and this monitor is just fine in this regard I think. But maybe if you were playing like Rocksmith ( or another game with an interface that requires pin point timing ), you would have a bit more trouble than with a monitor that is focusing on a low display latency. I have also heard of some people complain about ghosting with this monitor, but I haven't been able to pick up on it at all. Overall, its a great monitor for programming / desktop work. It essentially gives you 4x 1080p monitors in a single screen. I have visual studio windows everywhere!! XD. It also performs great if you want to use it for gaming. I am a big fan of watching like youtube videos and s*** while I work. This allows me to have Visual Studio take up half the screen real estate, while my program I am working on, a youtube video, and an ancillary web browser window can be open on the other half, its absolutley amazing and now when I come into work to my 30'' 1600p / 24'' 1080p combo, it makes me wish I was back home! XD

Good Monitor
By Jeff Johnson on Reviewed in the United States on March 11, 2016
*UPDATE* Well after a month and a half of use, the monitor is showing some defects. Monitor is flickering and takes a while to activate when computer resumes from sleep. Very sad and frustrated. Hopefully it's covered under warranty... Monitor works great and a plethora of cables are included, accept for a mini display port cable, which is confusing since the monitor on the back has a mini display port hookup. I uses this with a Windows 10 laptop so I had to have one. Luckily I had a spare in my closet. Otherwise no complaints, this is a superb monitor. To enable 4K at 60hz over Display Port, reach around the back right of the monitor to the little square button. Tap it to the right, then tap down 7 times. Set Display Port to 1.2. Reboot your computer and it should work. The only reason it is not 5 stars is because of a small cluster of dead pixels near the bottom left of the monitor.
