Great value for the price - and a very nice, powerful home computer.
By MovieNut Dave on 4/19/2017 1:11:19 AM
I purchased this computer because it is advertised as a "Signature Edition" computer. And that it definitely is - not a single piece of bloatware on this thing - a clean installation of Windows 10 and that's it. What a great experience in getting to the desktop for the first time and not seeing it half filled with a bunch of "crippleware" trial version programs that you have no interest, nagging you to update to the full version; and no shortcuts to web pages full of advertising and cookie setting bots. When it finally gets to the desktop after the initial setup, you'll be ready to immediately go to work and not spend the next hour deleting programs you don't want. Especially nice is that it doesn't come with a trial version of an anti-virus program that you'll either have to pay for the full version in 30 days or go through a complicated uninstall process. Yes, I know that I'll get some flak for being a fan of Windows Defender, but for everyday, normal home users Windows Defender (which is installed on this computer - it's part of Windows 10) will work just fine.

This is a basic computer that will work just fine for any home user. If you do video editing or are a heavy PhotoShop user, then this one probably isn't going to work for you. It has a lot of memory (8G) and a huge hard drive (1Tb) which are great pluses for this price.

A couple of minor complaints: 1- no "power" indicator light on the power switch - the first time you turn it on out of the box, you'll be hitting the switch a couple of times looking for the light. 2- like some other Reviewers have noted, this thing is pretty "plasticy" - I wouldn't buy this if it is going to get bounced around a lot. For normal use, though, it'll work just fine. Others have complained about the heavy track pad and buttons, but I use a wireless USB mouse as I don't like track pads, so I have no opinion about this issue. Also, this computer comes with a touch screen - I am used to having a mouse, so I probably won't make heavy use of the touch screen. I did verify that it works.

As with any new computer, don't turn this on for the first time until you have an hour or so to wait for and monitor the Windows Update which will run when you first use it. It did download and install 4 Gb of updates fairly quickly (about an hour in my case). The initial setup went flawlessly.

Finally, a note about Prime shipping on this. This is advertised as Prime eligible, but it will not be shipped by Second Day delivery. A number of reviewers have posted negative comments on the Vendor's review page about this issue. This is NOT the vendor's fault. This computer comes equipped with a Lithium-Ion battery and federal regulations prohibit shipments by air of lithium batteries over a certain size and capacity. So the vendor has no choice but to ship this by Ground (UPS in my case). So please don't rag on the vendor about this. Instead, criticize Amazon for not making this issue clear on the product page - Amazon should put a clear message on the product page that this item is not able to be shipped by Air and it will take a few extra days to arrive.

If you're looking for a nice, easy to use computer for home (or a basic office setup), you need look no further than this one. And definitely well worth the extra couple of days it took to arrive.

Worst HP Laptop Owned
By Mary on 7/15/2017 11:38:56 PM
UPDATE Sept. 2017: Returned this POS for refund after finding out DVD doesn't work without paying HP $70 for driver!!! Amazon refunded immediately when they find that out. Original Rating 3 stars now downgraded to 1 star, not even worth that. Seriously not impressed. Everything in the wrong place. DVD drive & USB port reverse positions. Mouse plugs in below DVD opening so constantly bumping into plug! Power cord port on left instead of right & shorter than past power cords so limited distance from electric source. Numeric keypad seems like a good idea but redundant and makes regular keyboard smaller and difficult to use as it it shoved to the left causing awkward use and typos! Obviously designed by/for users more into 'new & improved' instead of 'tried & true'. Screen color is dull & dark not vibrant & true; for a photographer (35K photos) that's a serious issue. This is why you DO NOT buy a laptop you can't see, touch and inspect before purchase. Last HP bought at WalMart for way less money and had NO issues. Shame on you Amazon for listing as Amazon Choice. Update 7/25/17: All the above negative issues and more after using constantly. No light for on/off switch, have to crane your neck to search for tiny 'on' lights right side below USB port. Win 10 is garbage, already sent way negative feedback to Windows; took days to adjust to change from Win 7; no way this is better. Edge so bad I switched browser to Google Chrome so I could finally get on-line without issues. All I use laptop for is my photography and to occasionally surf web and it's already slowing down! So many features from old HP laptop & Win 7 are gone; if HP calls this their "flagship" it's sinking like a rock! DO NOT BUY.
