An Excellent Investment for the Future.

***Please note that this is the UPGRADED U28-E-590D model, over the identical U28-D-590D model. The main differences is, the HDMI 1 input(the first one, nearest to the DisplayPort input) has been upgraded to HDMI version 2.0(from version 1.4). Also, this new version includes AMD's FREESYNC technology for PC gaming. The older model only includes a GAME mode picture setting, which this newer version also includes.***I was lucky to purchase this during the Prime Day promotion, which discounted this monitor to $300, so at that price, this is my 5-star rating review. Even at $400, I still think it deserves 5 stars. One of the key things you should notice is, this monitor has a TN panel, not an IPS(or PLS) panel. For the most part, the general consensus agrees that TN panels are better for gaming because of decreased input lag, and better color accuracy, while IPS panels offer better black levels and contrast, and viewing angle. To my average, unprofessional, and untrained eyes, I can sense some of those things.I used to have an LG 34 IPS monitor, LG Electronics UM65 34UM65 34-Inch Screen LED-Lit Monitor, which I bought for $600 almost two years ago. Now, there is a newer version, LG 34UM68-P 34-Inch 21:9 UltraWide IPS Monitor with FreeSync, for about $450(you can find a deal sometimes for under $400). At that time, the LG by far had the best image quality I have ever seen in any monitor or television. The images seem to literally pop out of the panel, and the black levels and contrast were superb. Overall, I would say that the LG has a little better image quality. But what I love about this Samsung monitor, is its scorching brightness - if you set the brightness to the maximum 100, you might just go blind - it has a brightness level of 370cd/m2. It also has Freesync, which is awesome for gaming if you have a Freesync AMD graphics card. And then finally, it has 4K resolution. You might not think you can tell the difference when you set a resolution this high for a monitor that only has a screen size of 28 inches, and to be honest when I was using the older version of this monitor on a Windows 8 computer, I was not impressed either, as Windows 8 didn't do a good job of scaling like Windows 10 does, so everything looked tiny and really hard to read. But with Windows 10's scaling options in the display settings, you can easily bump up the size of app icons, text, etc., making great use of the 4K resolution. Once you see how crisp and fine text and high resolution elements look in comparison between 4K and 1080p, you will never want to go back.So if you can find this monitor at a great deal as I did, or even at up to $400, I think it is a great investment for the future. With the DisplayPort 1.2 and HDMI 2.0 ports running at 60Hz, you are future-proofed for when you upgrade your computer for the future. This technology should last you at least 5 years into the future. Now, all we have to do is wait another 2-3 years until those 31/32-inch 4K monitors from Samsung and LG drop down into the $500-600 price range....**UPDATE: July 29, 2016 - As I just finished this review, Amazon has them in stock again for $400.****UPDATE: July 29, 2016 - If you want a good IPS alternative, there is this 27" 4K monitor from LG: LG 27UD68-P 27-Inch 4K UHD IPS Monitor with FreeSync, and the white version: LG Electronics 4K UHD 27UD68-W 27" Screen LED-Lit Monitor****UPDATE: August 13th, 2016 - As I have had more time with this monitor, I must say the viewing angles are not as good as the LG 31" 4K IPS monitor. If you are not in a magic spot of only a foot, the color shifts are glaring, especially the vertical angles, which add a red hue to the screen. To be honest, with the lowering of prices of 4K monitors, I am now more inclined to advise you that this is only a 5-star product up to $400.**

Died in around 3 months of moderate use. Avoid Samsung products.

The monitor started acting weird this morning with white flickering and lines. I did not use it for extended periods of time, it had around 3 months since the it arrived at my house. Also I found the menu navigation buttons are quite uncomfortable as well as confusing.***Update***June/16/2017I still have not received the monitor back because of Samsung's ticket system. I took the monitor to the service center appointed by Samsung and in days i get that my ticket expired as well the techs of the service center tell me that the monitor is close to a total loss. They can't work if the ticket is closed so I go back contacting Samsung again, this time they reopen the old ticket, the monitor it's still at the service center and days later contacted again the service center to ask if everything is ok.What i found minutes ago is that Samsung did nothing and now i have to go again and make a whole new process to see if they even care to honor "Their 1 year warranty" I barely used this monitor and my advice to buyers is to stay away from Samsung monitors and TVs. My only fear is if this happens in other Samsung products?***Update***August/3/2017I was lied by Samsung that my monitor would be fixed, 3 hours ago it arrived by UPS as soon as I connect the unit it's still broken with those lines and flickering so fast that cause strong headaches(I tested the monitor on 2 computers and 2 video cards). Costumer support was horrendous and could not do a thing.Being in PR I have to cover the shipping expenses for each time this monitor comes back faulty which by now its costing me the same as a new monitor. I'm sending the unit for the last time to be fixed in NJ at their repair center and I hope they fix the issue correctly because they keep lying, making me lose time, money and fall behind on my work. Stay away from Samsung products! It took me just this first and only experience with a bad product to stay away from them forever.***Update***September/2/2017Finally the monitor came back but only to notice that they did NOTHING this being the second time I've shipped the monitor.Contacted support and they said i have to ship it back once again and asked for a refund seeing this warranty did not do a thing, to top things off they refused to give me a refund or at least to cover the shipping after two failed repair attempts and this is not counting the local service center. Never again a Samsung product I would buy, cheap knockoff products with low quality standards and useless service center in NJ.
