Very Happy With This Open Box Printer.
By Tami E. on Reviewed in the United States on March 31, 2016
I am pleasantly pleased with this item. I have been looking for a printer for some time, even purchased an Epson inkjet for a little over a hundred dollars that I was not happy with because the ink dried up on it so quickly. My problem was that I had a monochrome laser printer that was working perfectly fine that was not wireless. And I really felt that the color laser printers were just out the ballpark for me, along with the cartridges. Then I found this little beauty. Well, not so little. Upon opening the box, it was slightly larger than I had plan but the features were great. It connected to all of my Google files easily and I'm able to scan more files to my Google files. Huge plus. I'm a teletherapist and I was looking for something like this. I set up my network, also fairly easy if you are familiar with computers. Have to hand it to HP, they give you a full size keyboard to input your password to your network, on the Epson that I had just purchased and hated, when entering my password, I had to do it in segments. So if your password was say "cookie" you had to go through the numeric key board until you reached the lower letters of each alpha numeric representation. What a pain, especially for long passwords. Setup on the computer was little bit more confusing. It got to the end of the disk set up and tried to do a page print test and flaked. Said that it couldn't do a test print. So, I went into the device driver, did a page test print and it worked fine. Clicked on finish on the setup and everything seems to be working ok. My printer is in the same room as my computer, so I don't have to worry about waking it up, etc. as others have commented. I haven't faxed from it yet, but I'm sure I will see how that goes and report back. One last thing, if you are considering doing an open box from Amazon, I highly recommend it. Although this printer did not come in the original HP box, I saved close to $50 and I can't tell that it didn't come out of the original box. Amazon did a super job repackaging it. Overall, I'm very satisfied. 4/1/16 Update ~ Does not play well with Internet Explorer printing, does fine with Google. I tried to get it to print from Internet Explorer but it just gets lost somewhere over the internet. Also, if you are looking for true double sided printing, this doesn't have it. It has a duplex printing option, which allows you to print from a separate tray then flip the pages onto the backside for double sided printing. Not a big deal, but could see how this might be for some. 9/1/16 Update ~ It appears that some of the bugs have been worked out in regards to Internet Explorer and Apple. I've now had it 6 months and still do not regret my purchase. My daughter commented that she likes the color pictures printed better than the new Epson inkjet with the mega cartridge which my parents own. I will say that the fax software on it isn't that great. I've actually switched to an online fax because it doesn't seem to be compatible with my Ooma phone. :( Scanning is great, probably one of the best scanning MFP I've ever had.

Does your office use Mac? AVOID this printer!
By Steve Dunlap on Reviewed in the United States on August 9, 2019
First, the good: this printer/MFP prints nicely, looks sharp, and the scanner and document feeder works well. Also, tech support is very helpful and good at following up, BUT they are helpless to solve problems with Macs (details below). If your office is entirely based on Windows PCs, then you'll be fine. However, if your office uses Mac, I recommend you stay away from this printer at all costs! My business has one Windows PC and several Macs, most of which are less than one year old. Windows? No problem. But with the Macs, you better get used to seeing the error message in the pictures I posted "File is Corrupt." Our high tech solution? Unplug the doggone printer, plug it back in, and print. It will usually give you one or two successfully copies, and then go right back to the File is Corrupt failure. This happens with files of ALL types, big, small, graphics, text, Word, Excel, PhotoShop, etc. The problem is intermittent and will waste tremendous amounts of your valuable time! I've called tech support twice on this one. The hold times are short and the people are knowledgable and friendly. BUT, the first time I called, they suggested I switch to generic postscript driver. That works once in a while, but is not a consistent fix - not at all. We continue to have problems, and now I have my people doing trial-and-error, switching between various drivers while trying to print file. Facepalm! On the second call, the "solution" was to switch my machines to a LaserJet 3000 driver that is 15 years old!! Yep, you read that right. The driver is from 2005. Hey, HP, how about your developers just fix the driver that comes with this software? The support tech even suggested to me that using the HP "Easy Start" software to install drivers is NOT the best way to go. Uhhhh, ok. Got it. Don't use the stuff that HP provides. Instead, dig through their archives for old drivers, and manually install those. Naturally, as tech support folks tend to do, they blamed someone else. This is all Apple's fault, you see. Because they update their operating systems frequently. Yeah, HP, that's how it works. You're supposed to keep up with it! Making this even worse, trying to install the HP3000 driver on our newest Macs hasn't worked either. Maybe they don't like 15 year old software? Dunno. But really, this seems like a ridiculous solution anyway. So, bottom line, this is a good printer for Windows shops. But Mac people? Look elsewhere, because I'm about ready to throw mine out the window. HP: if by any chance you're reading this review, my ask is that you credit my purchase price toward a new higher-end printer, assuming there is one available that does not have this problem. I'll happily pay the difference. Otherwise, after this thing gets defenestrated, I'll be shopping for Brother or Canon or any other brand that can help me STOP wasting valuable office time troubleshooting a device as basic as a printer!
