A definite upgrade for those who use their pens a lot!
By Yu Liu on Reviewed in the United States on October 27, 2015
Pen works flawlessly on the Surface Pro 3. The pairing process was virtually identical to the SP3 pen, quick and easy. The first thing I noticed when I picked up the pen was how well balanced it was. The old surface pen felt top-heavy at times; however, this pen felt just right. The pen I bought came with four extra tips (there is a special promotion that includes these tips with every pen purchase as of the time I wrote this review). I instantly changed the default tip on the pen (HB) to a higher friction one (B). Writing with the new pen feels great, the added friction really makes writing on the SP3 a much better experience. Things I want to point out about the pen features: 1. Single press eraser button to launch OneNote still work (as does single press to launch OneNote from locked screen) 2. Double tap eraser button to clip screen and send to OneNote works just as well as the SP3 pen. 3. I had my doubts regarding whether the eraser feature would work properly with the SP3; however, I was pleasantly surprised that the eraser worked perfectly with the pro 3 (tested on Drawboard and OneNote). Erasing feels rubbery, just like an actual eraser. 4. Press and hold eraser button to launch Cortana works. 5. You can still tack on the pen to the right side of the SP3 where it will magnetically stick if you're like me and don't use the pen loop. The pen seems to hold a bit more tightly this time around. 6. Pen latency feels just as good as the previous pen (it may be better, but I only use the pen for writing notes). 7. The SP4 pen has a higher hovering distance from the SP3 screen than the SP3 pen (I can hover a full inch away from the screen and it will still register). Things to note: 1. Unlike the SP3 pen (which required two batteries), the SP4 pen only requires a single AAAA battery. 2. Once I found out that the eraser works flawlessly, I began to wonder if Microsoft had added a feature that would let you to scroll web pages with the eraser side of the pen (this would make sense as you could use the pen side to select text and the eraser side to scroll). Unfortunately, this was not the case. Perhaps this is not possible with the way current software is set up. 3. The only has one button now (hidden under the vertical grip along the pen's side). The only complaint I have regarding this button is that it can be difficult to press at times as it is very "tight"; however, this may be a plus as it may prevent you from accidentally pressing the right click (a minor issue with the SP3 pen). Overall, this is an excellent pen, a worthy upgrade to the already great SP3. If you are someone who uses their SP3 to write, take notes, annotate papers in PDF format, etc. this upgrade should definitely be considered. 10/10. Would buy again.

Dead on Arrival! Second unit to return. update:3rd works great!
By Dr. R on Reviewed in the United States on January 27, 2016
This is my second ordered pen on amazon to return. The first one worked perfectly for 1 or 2 days, then problems started. Either the eraser would work but not tip and vice versa and other glitches. I returned to Amazon with no problems and ordered a new one. The new one arrived dead. The packaging was perfectly fine but it did not even pair and pressing and holding the eraser button would not show the small light as it did with the first one (not very technical review but you get the point). I was overseas and could not find an AAAA battery anywhere so I can check if this was the issue, and anyways I returned it. Amazon has been great throughout the return process but this is unacceptable for Microsoft! I am not the only one with defective unit on arrival and since I bought my surface pro (which I was super excited about) , it is one issue after the other. I am a die hard Microsoft fan and think they are great in terms of innovation and pushing the envelope lately, but this issue of QC needs to be addressed soon. I am going to order a 3rd pen , since the surface experience truly requires it and it was one of the main reasons I purchased it. Let's hope I have better luck with the next unit. Update : I received a new Blue pen and finally it worked as supposed to! The color is beautiful and the pen has an extremely nice writing experience. It is sturdy and the magnetic part is helpful to put it away when not in use. Not all apps are pen enabled but the ones that do work beautifully (office , annotator, edge) , even chrome after installing an add on works nicely with it. There are problems some times with calibration which I tried to fix (the lines don't appear where you are pointing but still show at inconvenient times) and there are occasional glitches.but nothing you can't live with if you are not an artist using it mainly to draw
