Love it. Bluetooth, Scans/Prints Legal & envelopes. All I needed.
By Colleen on Reviewed in the United States on March 20, 2018
I bought the 8710 because of the ability to scan, copy and print legal size documents. It does that well, though not on the flatbed. The legal documents have to be fed through the document feeder on top. The feeder is fast, which took some getting used to compared to my old office jet. The feeder also sends the documents straight, doesn't jam (as long as you properly separate and fan the originals) and produces high quality copies and scans. When scanning you have an option check box that allows you to combine all the pages into one document. This was a cool feature once I figured it out. Another benefit to the 8.5x14 scan is that you get the entire document. My mom typed her family's stories some 30+ years ago on an old typewriter which allowed the user to type, edge to edge on the paper. Letter size scanners force a top and bottom margin so portions of the document were cut off on most copies of her stories scanned on a letter size scanner. The paper tray is adjustable to hold legal size paper. Set up was easy using the setup disk and instructions. Printing evelopes is not intuitive, you feed the envelopes from the paper tray by adjusting the side guides to your envelope size (as expected) and place the envelope face down as indicated. The tricky part is getting it to print to the envelope instead of a letter sheet. In MS Word, position your cursor in front of the 1st letter of your address, then go to Mailings in the top menu and select envelopes from the ribbon. When the print screen pops up your recipent address will be in the TO box. You will have to type your return address. Once that set, select "custom size" (DONOT use the printer settings option). Under the "custom size" button is the only place to set the envelop size. I use the standard #10 size but you can adjust to what ever you wish. You then select the radio button that says print face down (per the instructions on the paper tray). When you hit the print, If your envelope preview shows a letter size sheet, go back to your custom settings and try again. The print on the envelope is staight and clear and very professional looking. This printer fit the bill perfectly. Update 3/19/18. I just found out this printer also duplexes like an office printer. I fed 5 pages of a double sided document. All I did was check the duplex and combine into one document check boxes and it was all automatic. It did front and back of each page before continuing to the next. Totally AWESOME!!

This printer is truly **terrible**--bad connectivity, terrible support, impenetrable settings
By Poddly on Reviewed in the United States on November 9, 2018
UPDATE: After spending many more hours on the phone with another half-dozen tech support people, HP has been unable to fix this printer. The printer does not duplex properly, particularly PDFs (top and bottom of the page is flipped from side 1 to side 2, page 1 will print single-sided and the rest of the document double-sided). The printer must be set over and over again to print 1-sided. The printer overrides application duplex/single-sided settings RANDOMLY. I have literally sent the same job to the printer twice with the same settings and one printed single sided and the other printed double sided. The printer does not indicate accurately when it has a wi-fi connection. Months ago (see original review below) HP said the printer had to be 25 feet from the router to maintain a reliable connection, so I moved the printer to within 20 feet. Last time I talked to support (a few weeks ago) they said it needs to be within 10 feet. At that point I might as well just plug it in. Honestly, what is the point of a wi-fi range of 10 feet? This is a useless machine and HP so far has been unable to provide me with a working replacement. Do not waste your money. ORIGINAL REVIEW: I have spent hours with HP support trying to fix the many problems with this printer. If you are considering purchasing this printer, please note: ***If the printer is further than 25 feet from your wi-fi router, it will not reconnect once it wakes from sleep.*** I have a home office. The router is in the living room, the printer is in an office. Maybe 40 feet away. Doesn't work. In order to deal with this problem I have to turn the printer off, wait for a while, and then turn it on again., which, for some reason, magically restores the connection even though the physical distance remains the same. Sometimes I have to go through the entire process to reconnect to wi-fi. Meanwhile, the printer says that it's connected the whole time. Getting the thing to print 1-sided instead of 2-sided is a mysterious complicated nightmare. You'd think it would be under the eco settings, but no. I still haven't gotten a response to where and how to default to 1-sided printing and I've had four chat sessions with support at this point. HP support is unable to help you with the simplest problems without taking remote control of your computer. The printing is OK, not great. The only thing positive I have to say about the printer is that the ink seems to last. Otherwise, avoid buying this ridiculous thing.
