Good kit and good results

Installed as a WAP in a townhouse to assist with coverage of upper floors. Fortunately the building was pre-wired with ethernet cable. I jumped one lead out from the router and ran it to the PoE (which is included, happily). Then I connected the PoE to the house wiring cat 6. I'm served by Cox panoramic wifi with a wireless hub. PoE sends 24V over approximately 55 feet of cat 6 cable. That powers the system fine. Mounted on the ceiling of the 4th floor signal is still adequate at the ground floor, although not needed because the ISP router and hub are on the ground. I got over 35 Mbps download and about 12 Mbps upload with that configuration and distance in the room with the AP. I used the recommended app to set it up and install. There are a few videos out there to walk through. It went very smoothly. Allow it to update and restart a few times. You should be fine. Otherwise you can use a PC to program it. What I didn't know for sure and I'm confirming now for you is that the kit includes a PoE with AC cord. And, the AP works on dual bands which give you 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. They can be separated by SSID and passwords if you wanted to do so in the admin utilities. I'll post an update or negative review if this thing doesn't keep up the good work. But I am very happy with the quality, ease of use, and performance right now. This should cover all my needs, but if I needed to add another, I would get another Ubiquiti AP. Updated to say that in a day things got better. Dell Inspirion 15 was getting 150 Mbps download, iPhone was getting 250+ Mbps, and Android phone clocking around 120. Your results will be individual. But after mapping itself, the AP does great. Signal broadcast strength is less than the base Cox WiFi router (to be expected) but the AP hit all the hard to reach areas that I planned. Still considering adding a spot for the middle floors 😀

Horrible WiFi

I have had a few recommendations to get this device. But I literally spent hours trying to install the stupid software for it. It runs using Java and Java is extremely picky with it. I had to uninstall Java completely and reinstall it for the software to work. And after Java has an update pushed it would not longer work again. So once again it was uninstall everything and reinstall in, this was only within a weeks time. I have Xfinity for my internet and use their modem I read that a lot of people had to put it in bridge mode to get this to work, which again is not the case. You have to connect in right at the modem with a computer and run the software for Ubiquiti to find the device and get it to run. The software isn't the most user friendly and takes a while to get used to it. It would have been worth it in the end but the range on this is absolutely horrible. The software has a option to upload a picture of your floor plan and put in walls and windows etc and scale it to your house size which I did. My house is only 45x36 and with this is the middle of my house I couldn't even get a full signal to my devices towards the outer rooms.. It was around 2 bars which isn't any better than the wifi my xfinity kicks out. I changed the settings around trying to get more range out of it, I upped the transmit power and changed the channel settings from auto or a selected channel. And still the range wasn't any better. Even sitting right next to it, my xfinity still had faster download speed than this. I even talked to customer service trying to find out if there were any other settings I could change to help the range. Worst customer service, your on hold for a very long time and then its a lot of waiting around for them to reply to your questions. And they are clueless to help you, and suggest things like upgrading firmware or moving the device to another location. All of which were tried several times. The map is pretty good at actually showing the kind of service you will get. My house is only typical drywall and 2x4. And even going to the next room over would cut the speed in half. I really wanted to like this device, and have come to the conclusion that older devices worked really well but they have really cut down on range with these newer ones. Conclusion buy something else and don't waste hours and days trying to get this to work in your house. Perhaps in a warehouse or office setting without walls these would work better. ********************** The second picture shows the older LEGACY AP PRO device and if I could have had a single that good in my house I would have loved it, unfortunately when I talked to Ubiquiti they said this device was being phased out and would not be supported by them for much longer.
