Great Mouse for Productivity and Gaming
By Iren on Reviewed in the United States on March 25, 2019
I got this mouse almost a month ago and I feel like I can already give feedback on it. Will add to this review if anything changes over time. When I was looking for a new mouse (after my ancient wireless one passed away) I was trying to choose from 3 models: Logitech G305 Lightspeed, M705 Marathon and M720 Triathalon (this one). I wanted the mouse to be wireless, to have multiple configurable buttons and to have a good battery life and nice ergonomic design. Choosing between the three I also took into account their price and the number of perks they came with. I ended up choosing this one because it offered a number of benefits for a considerable price and I have not been disappointed. So far the mouse has been just great. At first, I found it a bit more heavy than I expected, but over time I adapted to its weight being more concentrated in its lower part, and after getting a good mousepad that was no longer an issue for me. The size is also good for me, and I can use it with palm and claw grip, both of which are equally comfortable with this device. As you can see in the photos, the surface tends to pick up some dust and stains, but so far it has not gotten really greasy, and I hope it won't, taken I wipe it from time to time. It is very ergonomically shaped, if you're right-handed (duh). I use this mouse for many different tasks: video editing, gaming, work with documents, internet browsing, and in all cases this device has met all of my expectations. The configurable buttons and gestures are great in video editing and allow me to do my work faster and save time. For gaming, it's very responsive and easy to move around on a mousepad, despite the weight thing I noted earlier. I found the fast scrolling wheel very useful for document scanning, and I was also very pleasantly surprised to find out that the wheel has also a side-scrolling function, which I did not notice when I was looking through its specs before purchasing. I have not had a chance to use it on multiple devices to test out this feature, and that's the only thing I probably wish was different in this mouse - I'd really like to have that third side button as an extra configurable option, and not a switch for devices. But since there is the gesture button with 4-direction gestures you can configure, I guess one button can be reserved for switching, especially if you really work across multiple devices at once. I can't say anything on battery life yet, as I've been using it for a month or so, but I hope it will last long (I am also trying to turn it off whenever I'm not using it, so that might add to total time). TL;DR - very impressive and highly functional productivity and gaming mouse for a good price (cheaper on Amazon compared to the official site).

Great idea and great design marred by non-Logitech quality.

The thought of having One Mouse To Rule Them All is incredibly tantalizing. And I would expect Logitech to be the ones to get this right. But a great idea with mediocre execution leaves a lot on the table. I've owned several dozen Logitech pointing products over the years. When I started reading up on a mouse I could use across 3 different computers, I was very intrigued. On the plus side, the shape and feel is very typical Logitech. It's very comfortable for a right-hander. And not even remotely intended for southpaws. The material is grippy without feeling sticky. The tracking is excellent. And it glides over surfaces very smoothly with just the right amount of resistance. That said, there are a few flaws which are tolerable for the price, but should have been executed much better for a company with such a long, storied reputation. The biggest gripe I have is with the button feedback. The back/forth and computer selector buttons on the side have a solid level of resistance. The main left & right buttons are a little soft and I find myself right-clicking on things randomly when I'm just trying to rest my finger. But my favorite Logitech feature, the left & right toggle on the scroll wheel, is really poorly done on this one. I use the toggle to flip across desktops, and I often find that simply trying to scroll on a page will inadvertently toggle to another desktop. There needs to be much, much, much more resistance to this button. The same can be said about the "hidden" thumb button, below the back/forward/selector row of buttons. The Logitech software defaults this hidden button to showing all app windows (i.e. Mission Control on a Mac). But again, it's way to soft and I'm constantly hitting the button when I'm just going to take hold of the mouse. The pairing implementation isn't really well hashed out either. It comes with one Unifying receiver, which I dedicated to my 2011 iMac. I had intended to simply use Bluetooth pairing for my Windows 10 laptop (a 2017 Dell) and my 2017 Macbook Air issued to me as my work computer. Sadly, it wouldn't Bluetooth pair with my Dell. Luckily, I had an extra Unifying receiver from another wireless mouse I had been using on the Dell anyway. I had hoped I could recover a USB port with this mouse, but it's still dedicated to being a mouse receiver. The most disappointing part was pairing this with my 2017 Macbook Air. While it does work, it often loses its connection. So every couple of days, I need to put it into pairing mode and reconnect it to my Macbook. Which eventually leaves a long list of identical devices in the Bluetooth settings screen. Despite it's drawbacks, I still enjoy the idea of having one mouse that I can use with my 3 main computers simply by hitting a button. Even if the Bluetooth was still finicky, if they could firm up the button clicks, this mouse would be a winner.
