It's not just for Video Games.
By Crit on Reviewed in the United States on August 18, 2017
I'm using my wife's Amazon account to write this. This system replaces another Asus laptop (ROG series) I bought a few years ago. Let's get the basic Elephants in the room out first. Yes- It is heavy. But not as heavy as my last ROG laptop. Yes- It has loud fans. But only when under heavy load or OverClocked. Yes- It is expensive. But only if you're buying this as a video game playing laptop. I've been using Asus ROG laptops now for over 5 years and I use them for 2D and 3D Animation, Special Effects and 4K Video Editing. What I can tell you is that this laptop, which I'm writing this review on right now, is fantastic. I am amazed at how easily it handles 10bit 4K video using Premiere and After Effects. With 64 Gig of ram and a Geforce 1080, there's little wonder why. It handles heavy 3D fluid effects in Maya with ease. And it renders without trouble. I don't usually run this laptop overclocked. The easy to use Asus Gaming Center lets me switch off the overclocking with one button. As soon as I do this, any fan noise or heat issues disappear. I love that, if I do want a 4.4 Ghz processor, I can do that, but honestly, I want this to last a long time since I use it for my freelance work. My version is the (2) 512 Gig RAID (combined) with 64 Gig. I really love it. It's smooth and easy to work with. Windows 10 has not given me issues (knock on wood) I did purchase an external BluRay burner. I know most things are done without optical drive, which is why this doesn't have one.

Great performance - minor noise issue
By Brad M on Reviewed in the United States on May 1, 2017
The laptop performs well - great performance, no crashes, etc. My only gripe is a buzzing noise coming from under the keyboard even when idle both when plugged in and when on battery. The sound is very similar to an old HDD being accessed, but is constant. I thought this was coil whine but it doesn't sound like any of the records I've listened to. The only solution I have found is to change the power plan in windows to "Power Saver", which I try to avoid doing to preserve performance. The sound is only annoying in a quiet environment since it's the only thing you'll be hearing. I'm still giving 3 stars since the laptop performs to my expectations with this one minor annoyance.
