Works flawlessly between Dell XPS 15 and Dell 4k Monitor
By Eric B Noble on Reviewed in the United States on December 22, 2018
I bought this adapter to connect my Dell XPS 15 (9560) to my Dell 4K monitor (U2718Q). The monitor included a Mini DisplayPort cable, which I use to connect to my work machine (2015 MacBook Pro), but my XPS 15 has USB Type-C/Thunderbolt 3. I dual boot, and haven't experienced any problems when running Windows 10 or Fedora 29. I am running the display at its native 3840x2160 @ 59 Hz.

Tried twice. Both times failed within hours.

The first one of these Monoprice adapters worked at first, but then would only work if I was turning on my 2018 Mac Mini from sleep mode. I have the Mini connected to an Apple Cinema Display (not the thunderbolt version). If my Mini had been shut down, the boot-up progress bar would get about 2/3 of the way to completion, and then the Cinema Display screen would go black. The only way I could get a picture back on was to physically disconnect the Monoprice adapter and reconnect it. I returned that one to Amazon and just got the replacement. At about the same point on boot-up where the Cinema Display use to go black, the display now flickers. But, it does not go black and stay black. That still bothers me and I wonder if it is only a matter of time before this 2nd one stops working from shut-down mode too. It's really too bad Apple does not make an adapter so that folks buying a new 2018 Mac Mini could effortlessly continue to use their still very useable LED Cinema Displays.UPDATE: 3 hours after writing this review the 2nd unit also failed to work if starting your Mac from a shut down state. REturning the 2nd unit and buying another brand with solid reviews.
