I love this ereader, despite some complaints.

Despite all of the reviews of bad screens and poor battery life, I decided to take a chance and order an Oasis. My Voyage is dying and for my vision issues the Paperwhite screen doesn’t have enough contrast. I received an Oasis with a great screen, and I love the size. I can’t judge the battery life yet, but it charged crazy fast so I hope that’s not an indication that the battery will discharge quickly also. I’ll update my review on the battery life when I’ve had time to just sit and read. I do have some complaints... a $300 device and Amazon can’t include the charger adapter? Really? Then the charge cord that came with the Oasis lasted ONE DAY. One. Day. So have your own charge cord and adapter ready to use if you order one. And lastly, why do I have to download my library one... book... at a time? Ugh. There should be an option to download all purchased content, ignoring things like library loans. It would be nice to have an option to download all collections, so if you have filed books in collections those will at least download - it would give you control over what downloads without having to click on each book individually. It should then check to be sure there is room on the device, instruct the user to plug the device in, then go. Don’t make me sit here for hours pressing download, download, download... UPDATE 6/5/19 I’ve changed my rating from 3 stars to 5 stars. While I still have the complaints listed above, I really love reading on this device. I loved my voyage and didn’t want a new device but my voyage was failing. Well, I love the Oasis 2 even more. I am getting about 12-13 hours of reading on a battery charge right now, but that should improve a lot when it’s done indexing. Google the howtogeek.com article on “How to Maximize Your Kindle’s Battery (and Really Get a Month of Reading)”. He explains how to tell if your Kindle is still indexing the books you’ve loaded on it, which takes a lot of battery power. I loaded 2,100 books on my Oasis and about five days later it still has almost 300 to index. If it appears to still be indexing (the number to be indexed has gone from 299 to 261 while I’ve had the list of indexing books open so I know its still working on it, not stuck) then its fine. If you are left with a book or two that refuse to index you can remove them and stop the battery drain. CONCLUSION: If you like reading on an eink ereader, I highly recommend the Oasis 2. The Oasis I received has a perfect screen, the lighting is even, and the battery life is good and should get better. Some people don’t like how it feels to hold. I put a case on it (the Atoyu Colorful Case, color “watercolor”, its beautiful) which has a silicon back, fits great, and feels comfortable to hold.

Nice device but problems

The Oasis has a nice 7 inch screen with snappy performance. Text looks crisp to me and I love the buttons-great for one handed reading. Enough customization of fonts (style and size) and light levels to make it pleasant to ready any time of day or night. However I am docking 2 stars for this reason. My first device had mediocre battery life. I called support and they replaced it. But it took 6 different people and 5 days of testing (including them not calling back) after a reset which did not fix the issue. The replacement had a weird issue right out of the box. There was a clear substance around the whole screen (a thin line) where it met the case. It looked kind of like it was waterproofed or sealed on the outside instead of under the case. This was not present on my original one . I spoke to 5 people including one who wanted me to do a squaretrade warranty return on a new device (what??) as well as 4 others that all said I should refund it and re-buy to assure a new unit was sent and were all apologetic yet kept switching me over to what they said was the correct department until it was pretty much handled. I hope that the 3rd device is acceptable and will update this. I must say the kindle support people were generally nice, but did not seem to be as good as the regular support personnel and I hope that this is fixed in the future. 3-2-19 Update- The 3rd device was scratched near the buttons and had that silicone looking defect in the lower left corner. Ended up keeping original device-will live with mediocre battery life.
