The dock is great, but there are some caveats to be aware of: - Lenovo uses a proprietary connector instead of normal thunderbolt connections for this dock - It will likely need a firmware update - If you are running an OS other than Windows, you will not likely be able to do the firmware update for the dock. Without the firmware update, you may lack proper audio drivers for output over the HDMI/Displayport connections.

Updated: This WAS a superb addition to my Lenovo Carbon X1 Gen 8 for more connectivity now it's junk

Update: No-one seems to be able to explain or fix the connectivity issue that arose with this docking station. Undocked I get 300Mbps WiFi speeds on 5Ghz. Connect it to the dock and I get 8Mbps when it does recognize the 5GHz signal. Updated firmware, updated everything I can to no avail. Now I have an expensive and ugly paperweight. ------------------------------------------- Original Review: This works perfectly with the Lenovo Carbon X1 Gen8 and was simple to set up. Gives many more USB options and allows direct connection to monitors though DisplayPort. *Note 1: docking station does NOT have HDMI output - I bought a Lenovo L28u-30 28 Inch UHD monitor with DisplayPort inputs to make this easy, although I did temporarily use a DisplayPort to HDMI adapter which worked well. *Note 2: The resolution of the laptop is 4K UHD so make sure to pair with a 4K display (my older displays didn't do it justice, so I bought a Lenovo L28u-30 28 Inch UHD monitor For reference, the ports available are: 1x USB-C (5 Gbps, 5V 3A power) 3x USB 3.0 Gen 1 (5 Gbps, 1 always-on USB Charging) 2x USB 2.0. 2x DisplayPort 1.4 1x 3.5 mm Stereo/Mic Combo Port 1x Gigabit Ethernet Port 1x Kensington security lock slot (remember those? I even have a couple of locks somewhere!)
