Works Like A Charm

Super convenient and works like a charm. I keep my mouse plugged into it and it does great for charging. This is my second one, but it took four years to wear out so I'd say definitely worth it, especially if you are hard on your electronic gadgets.

Trouble with running two monitors and ethernet
By That_Guy on Reviewed in the United States on March 27, 2019
My desired setup is to be able to run two monitors out and an ethernet cable in to the left side of my macbook pro. This device can do that, but there are two problems that make it functionally useless iMO.One, I can get the two monitors and ethernet to work, but it seems like aside from the first time I plugged it in, I had to unplug everything and plug in my usb- monitor, then my hdmi-powered monitor, then the ethernet cable. So it works, technically, but having to do it that way to get it to work at all seems peculiar at best and a waste of time at worst. I also tried running both monitors out through the two usb-c ports (instead of one usb-c, one hdmi) but that never worked successfully. Two, there was no telling when it would actually power both monitors or just one. So even following various routines of plugging things in one at a time, there was really no rhyme or reason to why it sometimes works and sometimes doesn't.I'm going to return this and continue looking for a device that can make this happen.

Well built with one minor design issue

I purchased this hub to use with my new MacBook Pro, and I must say, it's fantastic. The build quality is excellent, and it even looks like Apple made it with a similar material feel and color. The port options are fantastic, and I love that there are several permutations of this dock to fit various needs. I chose this one since it has the ethernet port, which also works great. I do worry a bit about the durability of that port as it is plastic unlike the rest of the dock which is aluminum. The only complaint I have is that the hub is a little thinner than my computer which means when sitting on a desk there is some space below it for it to flex and put some stress on the ports. I read another review where the user added rubber feet and I've elected to do the same.
Solid hub that gives a good assortment of ports

Pros: I've been using this hub for about a month now, and have left it plugged into my 16-inch MacBook Pro all that time. I've tested all the ports, and they work as advertized. I haven't been able to test USB 3 speeds, but the USB 2 thumb drive works identically whether connected to the hub, or connected to an Apple Thunderbolt - USB dongle. This will work on either side of the MacBook, taking up the two ports on that side, but since you get one 100W Thunderbolt port, this is not an issue. The second Thunderbolt port is 60W. The hub doesn't make contact with the desk while plugged in, but this is a bonus because the Gigabit port has a trap door that must be raised before you can plug a cable in. Because the hub doesn't fit flush to the table, it means you can use the Ethernet port regardless of which side the hub is plugged into.It is a good, but not perfect color match for the space gray MacBook. It appears to be a shade darker.Cons: The device ships with virtually no documentation. The product description on Amazon is more thorough than what comes with the device. It is pretty easy to accidentally pull the hub out when the HDMI cable is connected, causing disruptions with the video out. I suspect that's true of any of these types of hubs. If you plug it into the right side, it completely covers the headphone port. It's also pricey, costing twice what a lot of other hubs cost. As advertized, the USB ports cannot run a SuperDrive, nor can they charge an iPad. So I still really need a Thunderbolt - USB dongle.
Great Accessory For MacBook Pro

The Hyper Drive is one fantastic product that is well built, small, very portable, and eliminates the need for several adaptors that would be required to allow one to use the new Mac type C ports. All 4 ports on my new MacBook Pro are type C which will not connect to any of my other hardware. This little jewel fixes all that and eliminate a lot of wires and adapters that otherwise would be required. Took it out of the box, connedted it to my Mac and everything worked fine. Love it.

Everything about the hyperdrive is great. Tested and works well, well built, and looks good. My only gripe is that I wanted the Silver version and there was no way to choose when I bought on Amazon. You can choose the color through the Hypershop, but not here. It was very difficult to see what exact color this was and it didn't cross my mind until after I received the item. Until Hyper or Amazon updates their inventory with Silver - beware, you will get a Space Gray colored one.

It is very well made and seems to be solid. It's great to be able to run 2 extra monitors and a CD drive. It comes with a little pouch that you can pack it and take it on your travels. This is made for the left side USB-C plugs.I wish they had it for the right side also.
Works great for my needs.

I’ve used this now for several days with my MacBook Pro. It works fine for my purposes. I use it mostly for my external monitor through the HDMI input and for my digital audio device which requires Thunderbolt 2. The connection is solid. You just have to make sure you push it in all the way. It won’t go in all the way if you have a protective case on the base of your laptop.
Good hub, but some issues (Updated March 2023)

Works well and I'm happy with the product (bought in 2018, it is now 2023). One large and 2 small dislikes. Over time the connectors into the laptop have begun to lose connection when I move my laptop a centimetre or 2 on my desk. This disconnects everything plugged in and is annoying, especially if I have an external disc mounted and the HDMI plugged into my monitor. Smaller issues: (1) It gets hot and because it is directly in contact with my laptop this heat is transferred to the laptop so the left side of my laptop is hot. I have had to turn it through 180 degrees to solve for this but this means the ethernet port is inaccessible on a flat desktop and in an inconvenient position. (2) When the device is plugged in a light on device comes on. It does not turn off when the laptop goes to sleep. This means there is a continuous drain on the battery if left plugged in when working on the battery and when the laptop is asleep. It would have been nice to know this as I had planned to leave it plugged into my laptop as a semi-permanent feature for travel reasons. It does, however, come with a handy leather travel pouch so not a deal breaker.
Almost loved it, but...

I've been using this hub for 4 months. At first I really loved it...it supplied me everything I really needed (and I still had the 2 Tbolt ports on the other side if I needed something else). It passed through full power to the machine for fast charging. Yes, gave up the card port for the ethernet, but that's what I needed more - woulda been nice if they could have given both. The HDMI port worked great the times I needed it on the road to connect to a projector for presentations.BUT... the initial thing that wasn't great is that the device doesn't turn off when you put the computer to sleep. So it continues to drain the battery significantly. The power light stays on, so you can see this. So if you're going to travel or sleep the computer and need to preserve battery strength, take it off!The ethernet port - the main reason I purchased this unit - has turned out to be cheesy. At first, I thought the "quick release" aspect of it that releases the ethernet plug was a good feature to protect it. But it got annoying. The plug would too easily disconnect. After 3 months, it got to the point where it was way too sensitive, and the slightest movement of the machine would release the ethernet plug. I tried using some tape to keep it in place, but to no avail. Now, after 4 months, the port has broken down and simply doesn't work anymore. I don't know if the contacts are no longer lining up or what, but it simply doesn't work (all the other ports are fine). Back to wireless, which I don't want to use with the laptop on my lap - where I sit with it for long stretches sometimes on my couch. (have you ever used a meter to see how much EMG radiation is being radiated onto your jewels??? 😉. It's not a pretty picture!).I'm about to find out how their customer service is when I call to return it after a mere 4 months. I'll report back about that. But my concern is that the ethernet port is simply not set up for everyday use with a laptop that gets moved from a table to a lap and back often. If it were in a stationary setting, would probably be fine. But this is a laptop! Not a desktop! Whole point of this attached unit is to be equally portable, not a stationary desktop hub.Hopefully they'll do right by it... and me.
