Works nicely....

This was a terrific purchase. I initially got one (another Arris) from Best Buy that didn't have phone jack ports for a landline. I was subsequently informed that that comes on a more expensive unit since apparently landline modems are a thing of the past. In any case I needed one and found this one, love the price, installed the unit and Comcast was able to provision it so that it worked without any difficulty. Big win for me without spending the crazy sums of money required for a comparable model at a store like Best Buy!

Malfunctioning, no internet, no support, too late to return
By JM on Reviewed in the United States on December 29, 2023
I had high hopes to a battery backup 911 phone line, modem and router "all-in-one", but this specific unit was a trasher and the manufacturer's support was very bad. While it's my fault that I didn't try to install this before the deadline to return it, it reflects on Amazon's refurbishment program that the device had serious problems when I got around to it (four months later). Could not connect to internet (after extensive diagnostics, including service provider's technician spending an hour on it.) In addition, I couldn't log in to the web-based settings framework. Ethernet didn't register at all until after the first (of three) hardware resets. This couldn't have all happened since Amazon shipped it, this strongly indicates that Amazon sent a broken product without properly testing it. The device itself has certain issues with the manufacturer - their web page for this product does not provide a link to the manual or firmware update(s). Arris has no excuse either. Lots of wasted hours by multiple people and interruption of an essential service - absolutely not acceptable.

Good product, should have come with a manual though

I am fairly tech savvy so the lack of a manual was not too much of a hindrance, but I still wound up having to call their tech support line to get it set up. The tech was very friendly and helpful, and within 20 minutes we had my Internet connection up and running (including hold time), so no real complaints there. The device performs as advertised, and puts out great wifi signals at both 2.4 and 5.0 ghz. We run two smart TVs, a Ring doorbell, an Alexa, two laptops, 2-3 cellphones at any given moment, and someone is streaming most evenings and I have yet to notice any issues with signal quality. It is as good as my Comcast/Xfinity cable modem and saves me $14/month that I do not have to pay the cable company to rent theirs. I would buy again and recommend to others (just please make sure you include the manual next time!).
Works as advertised

I have Xfinity 300 and this 7400 refurbished model works very well, it’s been 2 years 8/22 - 9/24 and we have had zero issues. X made the connection and setup - my range is excellent upstairs downstairs and even outside I am able to stream on TV &or laptop in all places around my home with no issues . I am very happy with this product.

2/1/21 Update: I'm on my second refurb unit and the problem is the modem keeps disconnecting. MDD timeout happens every minute, probably because SINR and dbmV are too low. I'm certain the two refurb units are defective because my old modem works just fine with signals well within parameters and connection stable. Thank goodness for Amazon Prime return policy. Stick with buying a new one and not a refurb! So far so good for this refurb unit. Connectivity is a big improvement over my older surfboard SBG-6782. This newer 7400ac has more channels, appears more stable and responsive, and was easy to set up with Comcast/x-finity. I can’t comment on the Wi-Fi performance because I use a separate Ruckus R610 WAP which outperforms any combo router/modem/ap in my opinion. Programming was simple and standard for any Arris router/modem. Program your LAN IP address, set port firewall/port forwarding for your surveillance NVR, initiate modem online with Comcast, and I was all set and running after about 20mins. The only issue i had was slow speeds initially. That’s because the modem failed to update its firmware on the first attempt. Comcast updated the firmware remotely and my speeds are now consistently over 100Mbps. Very happy with this budget refurb unit, but it’s only been running for a week. Hope reliability is good and will update this review.
Call Arris first for correct cable modem for your needs -Finally a WIFI cable modem that works

I have Xfinity as my provider who first recommended I blow 200 bucks on an Arris G36. Lost 160 bucks on that as by the time I installed it, too late to return. Then they recommended an Arris T25. Still have that dust collector as same deal, can't return and no one will give me 20 bucks for it. Finally called Arris who knew their stuff and they recommended this WIFI model that I purchased for 65 bucks refurbished and works great. Arris customer service dudes seem to be from India but work in downtown Philadelphia. Don't care as the folks at Xfinity are nice, don't give me a hard time when I want to purchase a piece of equipment of my own but I lost around 400 bucks until I finally called Arris and knew exactly the model I needed. Long term, I'd save 15 bucks a month. It appears I’m not the only person out there whose provider doesn't have a clue. Moral of the story is to call Arris, tell them your provider and what devices you need and they will save you hundreds of bucks unless you try to install it right away and can return it. Anyone out there want an Arris T25 in mint condition? JK as I'll post it again on Facebook's Marketplace for 15 bucks and see what happens.
Tough setup: Invalid SSID / password info and invalid ID and password to access admin page

This was a pain to get going so hopefully this helps somebody else. First, the setup QR code on the side of the unit did not work. My Iphone camera said unusable data. Secondly, the wifi SSID and password on the label were invalid. Instead of using the Surfboard app to activate the modem, I ended up using my Xfinity app. Got it up and running connecting via an Ethernet cable, but no wifi since the ID and password were not correct. So I connected my laptop via an Ethernet cable to access the admin page. The worst part was that the supposed default ID (admin) and password (password) to access the admin page at 192.168.0.1 did not work. I tried a factory reset (paper clip into the little hole in the top of the back, pressing until the lights in the front turned off), and then the typical unplug for 10 seconds. No luck. After chatting with Arris support, they told me that in order to do a factory reset, you need to first disconnect the coax cable and hold down the reset button for a full 35 seconds. This worked! It fixed the admin page connect ID / PW and the default wifi connection information. My guess is that my unit was sent out the door without a factory reset being done.
It works!

The Modem/Router arrives with minimum instructions, so you are on your own. I got it going. Its a nice product and it integrates both the modem and the wireless router. Once you programmed a User Name and Password, all the members of your household can join in.
