Two ARRIS SURFboard mAX Pro W31 Form Tri-Band Mesh Wi-Fi 6 W133 System AX11000

When purchasing ARRIS SURFboard mAX Pro W133 AX11000 Mesh System, Dontrentyourmodem-com offerred a Like New options with Two ARRIS SURFboard mAX Pro W31 for $195+$8.99S/H. I didn't notice the equivalent and purchased it. Upon opening the box, I realized that it's 2 W31 standalone router. It is an AX11000 Tri-Band Router covers 3,000 SqFt, but I thought the 2 W31 requires hardwired link. I returned it. A representative of Dontrentyourmodem-com sent a msg and said his tech person said it's the same as W133. All they have is 2 W31. I read up on the W133 and W31, and I think they can be linked wirelessly via SURFboard Central App. Indeed, they can be linked and act as a mesh system covering 6,000 SqFt as follows:1. Power up each W31 and reset it, as they are used Like New units.2. Turn off one unit and open SURFboard Central App (I had an ARRIS SURFboard S33 Cable Modem and already registered it in the App.)3. In the App, select Add New Device, then Select mAX Pro Mesh, Next Link the App with the W31 Router already ON and Wired to the Cable Modem, a S33 in my case, Once connected, it will checked for any software updates. This part is tricky for me. It failed, and I had to turn off the S33 cable modem and W31 several times, and additional Reset of the W31 also. Finally it connected. This is the Main Router Unit. The other W31 can act as a satellite on a different floor or location on the same floor.4. In the App, Select Add Satellite, Turn on the 2nd W31 unit, Click Next to connect the 2nd W31 to the App via bluetooth, Next to connect the 2nd W31 to the Main Router the 1st W31Unit. Again it took several tries to connect. That's all it took. The Wi-Fi signals are strong on both floor. I have a 5,400 SqFt house. Internet service with xFinity plan 400mbps Down and 100mbps up. Attached is an internet speed test with a XDO External USB WiFi6 Adapter Model AX1830 with 1201mbps on 5GHz Band and 574mbps on 2.4GHz Band. I got 471mbps down and 11.70mbps up. Great Connection and speed. The PC in the same room with the router. The speed varies during the days, but I'm happy with any speed above 100mbps. The speed is equally great on my iPhone 12 Pro Max. Before with an ORBI 2200AC, I got around 70mbps on my same PC with an built-in Realtek 802.11n, and around 130mbps on my iPhone 12 Pro Max. The XDO AX1830 is also a Realtek USB3 adapter. I would recommend Two W31 Units as Tri-Band Mesh AX11000 System.

Horrible App and minimal customization
By Winny Aschenbrenner on Reviewed in the United States on November 11, 2021
I bought the three mesh wireless router system three weeks ago. Despite what Arris says in their advertising the system is not a perfect plug and play. It took multiple attempts to get each router/satellite to connect. Once I got it running the wireless speed was very good. The main problem I had is that many of my 2.4Ghz devices (Nest) would not connect. I replaced it with the comparable ASUS Wifi6e product and the installation was effortless. Within 5 minutes of the install all of my Nest equipment connected to the system. 😀😀😀. Tomorrow I’m giving the Arris wifi Max Pro system away. Good riddance!!!!
