Like an idiot
By A.E.B. on Reviewed in the United States on June 10, 2018
I write this review after 2 years of heavy use of 500W SFX-L in my Mini-ITX machine.Recently the power supply cable was slightly pulled and not all the way in which caused some blue sparks coming out of the back of the power supply. Like an idiot, it took me a while to process what was happening, and before I knew it I smelled hot copper and the system shut down. It wouldn't boot back up, not even after 20 mins. I assumed the pc died. Either the PSU blew up or the MOBO was fried. But the next day I when I tried to turn it on again, it was working and just like new! Turns out it was some sort of safety mechanism by the the SilverStone PSU that prevented the system from booting if the temperature is too hot and it prevented the system from being fried when it sensed a large electrical discharge. On top of all that, after 2 years and this incident, it still runs smoothly and silently and keeps the system cool. Worth. Every. Penny. **UPDATE** It's 2020, 4 years later, in a hotter climate with worse electrical current and still going strong.

Bad product, bad service.
By Eric Carlson on Reviewed in the United States on June 12, 2016
Well, this has been a disappointing product from SilverStone AND the first time I have received sub-par service from Amazon. When paying 2 to 3 times what you would for a typical component you expect something top-notch and trouble free. The whole purpose of this power supply is to provide a larger fan with less noise. The first one I got made a ticking noise when starting up (it cycles on and off based on your system load) and then would occasionally make a moaning noise while it was running. I ordered a replacement after the first day. I received the replacement quickly but I could tell from the beat up packaging that this was most likely also a return that was being shipped out as a replacement for my defective unit. It even had a bracket from a prior system still attached to it. I installed it and once I got the load up to where the power supply would turn on it starting making a whining noise but wouldn't spin. I gave it a little nudge with a screw driver and it started to spin but would again make occasional noises. Needless to say I'm requesting another replacement and will keep doing so until they make it right.
