Works great once you get it working
By David08 on Reviewed in the United States on April 14, 2021
I bought two AX5300 to upgrade an existing AC2200 mesh network with a mix of wired and wireless nodes which was starting to struggle with too many IOT WiFi devices. First added one of the AX5300 nodes as a child node using the LinkSys App. No problem, everything went fine. Then I went to replace the parent node and things got complicated. The App failed and told me to call support. The good news is that the LinkSys support line answered promptly and the techs were knowledgeable. The bad news is that resetting or rebooting a node takes like 5 full minutes and the software didn't work the way it was supposed to so debugging was a slow process. Eventually ended up disconnecting everything, setting up the one new parent node, collecting all of the child nodes, resetting them and adding them as wireless child nodes by pushing the reset button on the parent 5 times (an undocumented magic handshake that the support tech revealed). Then I put all the child nodes back and reconnected the wired backhaul network cables where they were available. I am now getting excellent signal and excellent performance, but it took a couple of hours. Good features: - Good performance and security - Seamlessly integrates nodes from different product generations - Useful App - 5 ethernet ports on the AX5300 avoids the need additional for switches - Attractive and unobtrusive look makes it easy to place them without disrupting decor Could be improved: - The App and router web interface both need debugging - Rebooting is slow and goes through a series of cryptic light color/blink changes. Needs to be better documented and would be nice if it was faster - The App needs to do a better job of associating MAC addresses with manufacturer/device information. Telling me I have an HP93F4B4 on my network isn't very useful - The reset button on the AX5300 has a strong spring that makes it painful to push and hold. Plan on using a ballpoint pen or nail file

Buyer's Remorse
By Sean C. Allen on Reviewed in the United States on March 30, 2021
I've had this system for seven months and can now safely say that I got played by Linksys! For around $700 ($350 per router/node) I would expect to have gotten a top of the line product when in fact this is the worst wifi router I have ever owned. I knew better. Save yourself some money and heartache by purchasing ANY other router on the market priced between $80-$150 and it will be better, even from Linksys. The mesh is a joke, my house isn't even close to the advertised 6000 sq.ft. of coverage and connectivity is poor. Devices will almost never connect to the child node, but would rather connect to the primary node with a weak connection that constantly drops. When they do connect to the child node there is a strong connection. There is no way to force a device to a specific node or even ask the device to scan for a stronger node itself (the network is supposed to do this scan automatically, it does not). Even with a child node sitting directly on top of a wifi printer the printer is connecting to the primary node. The only way to see which node a device is connected to is through the mobile app, this info is not displayed in the 192.168.1.1 router admin page. The utter lack of any admin tools is absolutely ridiculous. You cannot see any network traffic, overall or per device. It is completely void of features, which is absurd at this price point. There are a few good things to point out. When things are working the speeds are good on all connected devices. The setup of the system was also quite easy. Once again, at this price point I would expect more than "sometimes it does some of the things routers do and does them okay." Disappointing from a company with such a great history in the industry. I still own a few WRT54G routers. It feels like they took the worst/cheapest router in their lineup, added "Mesh" to the box and jacked up the price 1000%. I would only recommend buying this system if it dropped under $100 (for the pair).
