Solid mid range ultrawide with great specs
By Scott on Reviewed in the United States on May 24, 2020
Pros: -144hz native -HDR 400 certified -Gsync compatible (48-144hz) -external power brick (might be a con depending on how you feel) -IPS 1ms response Cons: -included cables are a bit short Overall this is a solid display, but I'll be honest I was very nervous when I bought this because there were no reviews of this monitor on Amazon or anywhere on the internet that I could find. I guess it's because this is a new model that LG just introduced at CES 2020. Anyway, it's 2020 and the reality of the panel lottery is still with us. I did lose some sleep the night before because I was very nervous of getting a bad panel or having the display damaged in transit or at the factory. When It arrived I was pleasantly surprised that the monitor box came inside another, larger box from amazon that included additional packing material to prevent the monitor from shock damage. When I opened the monitor the packing was firm and tight, and the first thing tat I did was to assemble the stand (very easy to do) and plug the monitor in with the included, but short, displayport cable and check for dead/stuck pixels or severe back light bleed. To my absolute amazement, I saw no dead pixels and back light bleed was nonexistent. IPS glow is there, but minimal and comes with the technology. I'm not sure if I just got lucky or if LG's QC process is just that good with these new monitors. This is my first LG monitor but I'm definitely going with them from now on. While most probably don't like the external power brick as it adds additional cable management, I actually like the modular approach in case it is faulty in the future or needs to be replaced. The displayport port is 1.4, so if you need some more reach you can do what I did and purchase a longer cable to suit your specific needs. HDR 400 is fine, but isn't as robust or clear as HDR 1000, but if you wanted that, you'll be paying more than twice the cost of this. The native 144hz works fine, as does the 165hz overclock, but I didn't use it since freesync/gsync works from 48-144hz. The panel is also 10 bit, which is a nice touch as well. Coming from a 27 inch 144hz TN panel I was expecting more blur from the lower response time of the pixels. I was wrong. I may not be a pro gamer or anything, but I do play a lot of fast paced games and I was amazed in the response time. There is merit to LG's claims of fast response, although I'm not sure if it is exactly 1ms. G sync works fine, as I have a GTX 1080TI, and haven't experienced any of the common problems that may happen with lower end freesync panels. This panel is certified with Nvidia as Gsync compatible, so I guess no problems should be expected there. For its price, I couldn't find a monitor that checked as many boxes as this one did. Sure, there are ultrawides with HDR1000 and such, but come with other tradeoffs like running hot and annoying fans that are loud. There are also less featured ultrawides if you don't need HDR or 10 bit color, but at $1000 USD this monitor is priced right, and is a solid buy if you are entering the world of ultrawides for the first time like me. I do recommend buying it from Amazon if possible, as their return policy tends to be a bit more generous than others with regards to dead pixels/etc.

DO NOT BUY THIS MONITOR. MAC USERS BEWARE!

PROS: 1. DCI P3 98%. 2. IPS Nano Panel - IPS Nano is the latest technology. Better than IPS. Super rich colors. 3. Super Gaming options. 4. 600 HDR 5. 56 Local Dimming Zones. Decent Black Levels. 6. Dedicated Sync Ultimate Module for Nvidia gamers 7. Build is Okay. 8. RGB lighting option in rear good, if it works! CONS - This will blow your mind: 1. No Factory Calibration. Out of the box Severe Green Tint. 2. No USB-C Connectivity. 3. Only 2 Ports - Comes with 1 HDMI Input and 1 Display Port. Monitors that are one third the price of this monitor come with multiple connectivity ports. Are you kidding LG? 4. NO HDMI 2.1 - Comes with single HDMI 2.0. 5. HDMI port only supports 8-bit color. If you need 10-bit color, you will need to use the Display Port. 6. Buggy LG Onscreen Controls application for MACOS. Sometimes hangs and consumes too much CPU. Also, LG Onscreen controls for Mac version does not have any Monitor settings options you can change. The same software for Windows has ton of extra options (like brightness and contrast changing, firmware update etc). The only thing you can do with this Mac version of software is Screen Area Split customizations. 7. Monitor Firmware cannot be updated. There is no option to update the firmware. The firmware version is not even listed in the settings menu. So, you do not know which firmware it is running. 8. No Swivel support in Stand - Stand support only Height and Tilt Adjustments 9. Limited MacOS compatibility - Text DPI cannot be customized in MACOS Ventura. 10. RGB Lighting Cannot be customized for MAC-OS Users - LG Ultrawide Control Center app is needed for customizing the RGB Colors. Unfortunately, LG makes this app only for Windows OS. 11. Severe Color Banding in HDR - Selecting any refresh rate above 60HZ when HDR is ON gives very bad Color Banding. 12. No Dual Controller Support. 13. This monitor does not support Custom ICC profiles in GAMER Mode. So your custom color calibrated profiles will not be recognized in Gamer Mode. 14. If you choose SRGB mode, most of the color adjustment settings (GAMMA, COLOR TEMP, RGB, Six Color) will be automatically disabled. Only two options you can change in SRGB mode is Brightness/ Contrast and Local dimming. Some other issues with my Purchase: I bought this New 34-inch 34GP950G-B monitor ships and sold by Amazon. There are two issues with Monitor. 1. I was sent a Used item. There are scratches and hand marks all over the monitor. 2. The monitor is defective since the RGB button on the monitor does nothing and the RGB lighting does not work on the back of the monitor. Problem with Replacing the monitor: There is no option to Replace the item. I see only a Return option. I want a replacement and not a Return. I do not want to return and place a new order since I have purchased it using my Amazon Store card and it does not have enough credit left over to place a new order and I cannot wait until the return is complete for refund to appear on the Amazon Store card because the Promotion Deal will go away by then. So, I called Amazon Customer support and asked for a replacement. Even the agent did not have the option to issue a replacement and transferred to a separate team. The lady on that team kept me on hold and disappeared and I had to finally drop after waiting for almost 1hr. I called second time on a different day and was transferred again to this team which never picked up the call. Poor support from Amazon. I am stuck with the defective used monitor.
