This particular web cam has a convenient cord with plenty of length. The sound and video quality is excellent and it has lasted longer than other web cams. Previous web cams I purchased, in contrast, had cords that were minimally adequate at best and had inferior quality.

not an improvement over the earlier version

I had the earlier version of this and the camera stopped working permanently after a year and a half. So I bought the updated one, but it still had the same problem that sometimes if left plugged in (but not in use) for too long the camera would cut out temporarily. The main difference I noticed with this one initially was that the camera has a longer focal length, so located at the same distance shows your face closer up. But then it also cut out temporarily a couple of times and I returned it. Sound is excellent.
