First time Mac buyer, on the fence about purchasing brand new
By Frd on Reviewed in the United States on June 7, 2024
I was looking for a Mac to purchase for some entry-level music creation, mixing, production, etc - but also looking for something to just have for typical portable computing things I would find pretty inconvenient on a smartphone. Never owned a Mac before, so the choice fatigue was REAL.I purchased the 512GB storage, 8GB RAM model, and so far it is perfect for what I need. I have high standards for technology and performance, being in the IT field, and this laptop knocks it out of the park. The performance for what you pay for is incredible (and that's not to say this laptop is a budget system). The M1 chip more than keeps up with my audio workflows, multiple applications open, etc. MacOS is so optimized and balanced that you would never notice this device has 8GB of RAM.Initially I returned my first refurbished M1 air and got the new M3 air because I wasn't fully aware of what it was capable of. After using the M3 air for about a week, I realized it was actually TOO overpowered for what I am looking to use it for. Returned it, and got this refurbished M1 air. Bottom line, if you need something for light-to-medium creative work with amazing battery life, build quality, and something that just keeps going and going, this is a perfect choice. On to the refurbishing quality. It's perfect. The battery must've been replaced, because it has 100% health, which is awesome to see on a refurb system. The screen is perfect as well. Not even a micro scratch. Keyboard is perfect as well. All around, the system is like brand new. It was either VERY well taken care of by the previous owner, or the components were replaced to make it resellable. Either way, it's perfect in and out.Charger and cable included were aftermarket, however they are similar quality to the original charger, and work exactly the same.

UPDATE SHENANIGANS
By Sam on Reviewed in the United States on November 28, 2024
The laptop came in great condition with no scratches and minimal marking on the keyboard. The box it came in was rough and deteriorated but I’m not upset about it as the product itself is in good condition. The battery life came in at 89% with 273 cycles of use which is more than I would have liked but its a refurbished item so I am not surprised. Here was the MAIN ISSUE.After setting everything up I went to the system settings to update to the latest OS considering it booted on Monterey, however, it prompted me to enter my user password and although it was correct, I was not able to update the computer. I attempted a repair of the disks in the utilities menu in recovery mode and that did not work. I dont think the sellers properly wiped the laptop as it did not recognize me as the owner of the device even with admin privileges. IF YOU RUN INTO THIS ISSUE I FOUND THE SOLUTION BELOW TO BE THE EASIEST WAY TO RESOLVE IT.In recovery mode, I erased the Mac and then reinstalled macos Monterey, and after logging back in, I was allowed to update the computer as usual. That seemed to clear the issue, but this shouldn’t have happened, I expected the computer to be properly reset when I booted it up. I’ll see how the macbook runs in the coming months, and hopefully will not run into further issues.
