Great 4K Monitor; Be Sure Your Settings Are Correct
By Theo on Reviewed in the United States on December 20, 2024
I've had this monitor for a couple years and it' s been working great with an M1 MacBook Pro. I wanted to chime in because I often see people talking about the monitor not being bright enough, or putting the computer to sleep, etc. Frustratingly, there are some default Eco settings on this Samsung monitor that will not allow you adjust the brightness, once you turn these off (be sure to turn off Eco Light Sensor), and adjust the brightness, this monitor is plenty bright. 250 nits is on the low side but totally acceptable for indoor work day or night. Also, if you're fiddling around with the settings, you could potentially change a setting that can cause the monitor to sleep after a certain amount of time. I would highly recommend that with ANY monitor you buy, study the built-in menu/display buttons (this Samsung has more of a joystick) and read the manual (or as they say in tech fields RTFM 😂). Different monitors have a whole range of functionality and settings built into them that can usually only be controlled manually on the monitor itself and not through software settings. It can drastically affect your end user experience by knowing or not knowing the functionality of the monitor that you've purchased, I hope this helps someone!

There are serious issues that make this otherwise nice display totally unusable
By Srinivas Gorur Shandilya on Reviewed in the United States on August 1, 2021
1) This is a very dim display (look at the tech specs -- only 250nits). In comparison, the standard built in display on a macbook is 500 nits--twice as bright. You can tell the difference. White pages don't look white but rather a weird gray. 2) And don't get me started on the reds. They are overwhelming and intensely saturated. "Yellow" and "Orange" colors in the colorscheme of my text editor are bright crimson. "Red" is some color I have never experienced before and hurts my eyes to look at. 3) After a while, the display goes to sleep. Unfortunately, this means that it also shuts down power to connected computers. Something about the way it does it causes my computer to wake, which in turn causes the display to wake. And this whole cycle repeats itself every 5 minutes or so. It's extremely annoying. And not good for your computer because it's constantly being woken from sleep. God forbid you have your computer sound not turned off, and it makes a bing every time because it thinks the power is being disconnected. This alone would make me not want to use this. 4) Sound doesn't work! It supposedly has speakers, but audio just doesn't flow over USB-C
