Mobile Pixels Duex Plus 13.3" Portable Monitor

I have used this for about 9 months. I really love it and have come to depend on it. For years in different jobs, I had desktop computers with 2 monitors. Once you have 2 monitors, it is hard to go back. It really increases the productivity speed to be able to view a document and an email, or 2 documents, or two websites versus having to click back and forth from document to document, tab to tab, etc. I have not had a desktop at home for years, however, just my laptop, which was fine for typical home use. When I started teaching a couple of college classes as an adjunct last fall, I decided to look around at what was out there. I found this dual monitor setup, liked the reviews, and ordered it. It has exceeded my expectations. This monitor has been sturdy enough to handle a lot of movement. I end up taking it off my macbook and putting it back on frequently. The 4 magnets that you have to stick on the "lid" of the macbook are not so great looking if you care about style and have a cool cover, but for me, that didn't matter. I use this set up on a little laptop table when I am doing my class prep on the sofa. It is sturdy, but it is also pretty light and portable. If I take it with me in the book bag, I usually leave it attached to the laptop lid magnets. The whole thing fits in the padded laptop pocket with my 13" macbook. The extra weight is minimal. I used the monitor in portrait mode (so the long way is vertical) only a couple times to display a recipe in the kitchen. It worked good for that with the base folded back behind the screen, but to get my macbook to change the display to 'sideways' I have to reset the monitor settings through the mac's OS. I am too lazy for all those clicks to set it up and then return it to my normal landscape mode afterward, but the portrait mode is nice for a recipe because you don't have to scroll up and down from the ingredients list to the instructions. My typical use of the duex monitor is just plug and play. When I use it, I just put the monitor (collapsed into the base) on the magnets, slide screen out to the right, then attach the cable. The screen boots up and is ready to use in about 3 seconds. The mouse goes back and forth between the screens like it is one screen. I have the second monitor set at a different resolution, and that works fine. To my uncalibrated eye, the screen quality looks as good as my macbook which is a 2021 M1. The only weakness was the cable. So you should be careful plugging and unplugging it. Avoiding any bending where the cable meets the connector. The cable on mine developed a bad connection where the cable attaches to the male USB C connector. The bad connection there, internal to the insulation and not visible, caused the monitor to lose power intermittently. The intermittent monitor reboot made the laptop screen go blank for about 2-3 seconds while the computer adjusted, so that was making its use impractical. The company, however, was awesome about it. I reached out to them via Amazon, they responded immediately and sent me a new cable at no charge. They seem to be serious about providing good customer service. This review is totally voluntary.
