Perhaps the BEST Keyboard Ever Created!
By Armchair Polymath on Reviewed in the United States on August 27, 2018
Disclaimer: Ive used the Steel Series 6Gv2 (Cherry MX Black), as well as the Razer Black widow (Cherry MX Brown). For purposes of this review i am focusing on the performance, feel and build quality. (Spoiler: ITS FANTASTIC) Of all the keyboards i have used and typed on, this is by far the greatest thing my fingers have ever had the pleasure of experiencing besides *censored for family-friendly purposes*. Let me just say that if you enjoy linear switches, but are nervous about the sensitivity of the Cherry-Silver switches found on this board then fear not, for that was also my fear. The problem i had with cherry black was that sometimes i would press a key quickly just to find that i did not press hard enough and i would actually miss key presses that way. I got the black widow for the brown switches thinking that the tactile bump would help me know when the key was actuated. While it helped i could not help but feel that the tactile bump somehow slowed me down or got in the way of that smooth gliding typing feel. ENTER THE MX CHERRY SILVER. While i have never tried reds, i have heard that they are some of the most preferred switches for gaming. Having tried these silver switches i can now see why. (Reds are similar to silver switches, but with a deeper actuation point of 2.0mm compared to the Silver's 1.2mm actuation travel. The Reds total travel distance is also deeper at 4.0mm, Silver's total key travel is 3.4mm deep) When i go for a key, there is no worry about the key not actuating for the key effortlessly gives into the force of my finger. The switches are not so sensitive where the weight of my finger alone actuates them. It is just PERFECT. It truly is a hard thing to describe. For gaming i cannot imagine a better switch or board. And typists fear not for if you are sure footed in your typing skills then know that the linear switch is not your enemy when it comes to the Silver MX switches. I actually look forward to using this Keyboard every day. That is literally how much i enjoy this board. This is the first review i've wrote on amazon in years. That is literally how much i enjoy typing on this board. I almost dont want to even stop typing now lol. The funny thing is i was going to get the k70 with cherry mx browns, but decided on the LIMITED EDITION WHITE VERSION because it includes the DOUBLE SHOT KEYCAPS. which was a big deal for me. I wanted the most durable keyboard i could get and i saw how on the regular k70 some people complained about breaking keycaps. (YOU CAN BUY THE DOUBLE SHOT KEYCAPS SEPARATELY FOR $50). I thought it was well worth the risk with Amazons generous return policy to try this one out. PLUS THAT WHITE KEYBOARD IS SEXY LOOKING AF. I typed this whole review out on the board and only made 1-2 typos. rgb lighting is self explanatory. its gorgeous. everything about this board is gorgeous. BOTTOM LINE OR TLDR: Avid typist or Gamer you will not regret splurging on this board. It is the best purchase i have ever made for a PC peripheral and it works well on MAC as well. The included wrist rest is also really nice. though it is rigid is has a soft touch texture and has eliminated elbow and wrist discomfort that i would normally get on my glass desk surface. ps. DID I MENTION HOW MUCH I LOVE THE VOLUME WHEEL? EVEN WORKS ON THE MAC! Edit(11/3/2021) This keyboard is still rocking without a single issue yet! I hope they continue producing it. It seems the newer designs are straying away from what worked so well on this edition. Many of these companies are attempting to produce their own gamer switches rather than rely on MX Cherry. MX Cherry has the best reputation for switch quality though for obvious reasons so keep that in mind when researching your next keyboard.

40% Is Great, 60% Is Unbearable

Pros: - Looks good - The blue switches are nice to use, very clicky, just what I wanted. Cons: - This keyboard for starters, feels massive, not because its a full size 100% key board, but because there's just so much extra/unused/poorly used space all over the keyboard. The top 10% of the keyboard is physically useless if I'm honest, they could have implemented the four buttons across the very top of the keyboard in a million different ways and chose the least efficient one. - The default keycaps are fine but feel rough to the touch which I understand is a side effect of the double shot PBT but at the same time, it feels rougher than usual, maybe that part is just in my head. - One of the most annoying parts of it, is the software and Corsairs idiotic implementation and seemingly self-imposed limits of it. It's entirely lost the ability to save a pre-made profile, which includes lighting effects, button remaps, macros, etc., directly to the device. To save a profile directly onto the device, you now have to enter offline mode or whatever they call it and then make everything from scratch. Now for macros and key rebinding, this can be annoying but not a terrible experience, but if you have a complex lighting effect then you'll have no choice but to go through and manually recreate it. My biggest problem with this system, IS THAT YOU USED TO BE ABLE TO JUST IMPORT PROFILES DIRECTLY TO THE DEVICE MEMEORY ON THE PREVIOUS GEN K70. I would know, because I still have mine and even tested it before writing this review to ensure I wasn't going insane and that it still worked. They are somehow going backwards in the amount of features in their software and it is baffling. - The space key feels mushy, inconsistent, and does not inspire confident while gaming. I started my yearly 2 week Minecraft spree a few days ago. I received this keyboard a day or two after starting a Minecraft world with some friends, and when trying to constantly jump up things the space bar was useless. It does not have enough spring back force to reset itself in a useable manner. I could press space to jump up something and if I dare rest my thumb on the keyboard (something I would argue majority of people do with their keyboards) after pressing space, it does not have enough force to fight back against my resting and motionless thumb to spring back into the "active" position. This meant that after pressing space just a single time, once it gets back the point of "clicking" the key it will not reset it self so that it's ready to click again until I fully lift my thumb off of the key. I don't really have a better way of explaining it currently, but I promise it is something you will notice if you play games which are more spacebar heavy. - Also about the spacebar, the sound it makes is horrible. It is such a major contrast compared to all the other keys on the keyboard, even the bigger ones like the shift and ender keys. The keyboard key is significantly deeper in sound while also sounding hollow and has massive reverb to it. The worst part is, I'm not even crazy about keyboards or how they sound like that. I don't care about how it sounds but this keyboard has been so jarring to use, I can put my wife blindfolded in the same room as me and she can tell the exact time I use the spacebar during any amount of typing or even during any key pressing test. It sounds terrible and makes me feel as if I am breaking the keyboard while I use it for it's most basic function. - There is no real support for a 3rd party "market place" type thing where the community can upload and download each others preset lighting effects. Except for 2-3 major users who have dedicated websites for hosting their presets, unless those 3 people have an effect that fits your mood or theme, you're going to have to create your own effects.
