Capability on a budget
By John E Melendy on Reviewed in the United States on March 9, 2025
I received an Inspiron 3030 instead of the 3910 that's advertised. Not a bad thing at all. Same features, 16GB ram, i5 processor, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD, DVD, memory card slot, 8 USB slots, HDMI & Display Port, etc. What's better is that the processor is an i5-14400 and the ram is DDR-5. There is one open DIMM slot so I ordered a 16GB ram card to boost memory to 32GB.The machine is nearly silent when running. If I listen hard right next to the box I can hear the hard drive faintly. The wifi is plenty fast and reliable. I process digital photos and video quality on my IPS monitor is excellent. Rendering is fast and I expect it to be quicker yet with the extra ram.Sure, there are faster machines with better graphics out there but, for a budget machine, it exceeded my expectations.

Windows 11 OS is a disaster
By W. Dobni on Reviewed in the United States on June 7, 2023
this Dell computer comes pre-loaded with Win11 OS and its a nightmare. The little Dell computer hardware package is adequate for pedestrian daily users altho it basically cannot be upgraded or added-to unlike old full size desktops. The hardware is tolerable. The real problem is the Windows 11 OS which is a disaster in my opinion. I've been a dedicated PC user and have used most microsoft systems since before windows was invented about 40 years ago and Win11 is the worst experience. Its like a ruined Windows 7 system....metaphorically its like Win7 that took LSD and then fell into a wood chipper.Win11 is very user unfriendly ... there is no hard disc with the OS on it, and apparently you never actually own your copy of the OS. During setup there are so many mercenary grasping screens asking for more money and credit card numbers. So many 'features' are now automatic and can't be turned on or off and serve only to sell you something at every menu selection. Win11 comes loaded with bloatware and sellware and rentware that is difficult to stop or remove in many cases. You need a PIN to load your own computer every time you turn it on and going PIN-free or the equivalent is basically impossible. So much of Win11 is maze-like and obscured and pointlessly shuffled and disordered and opaque compared to Win7 which is open and upfront with system information and tools and procedures. So much of the embedded software in Win11 is mercenary, unfunctional, and/or undesirable to any experienced computer user....just wasted RAM and ROM and CPU resources and registry pollution that needs to be uninstalled and disabled and sorted away.....unless your life revolves around instagram and reddit and facebook and spotify and xbox and espn.Win11 is definitely regressive and unfriendly all papered over with a slick veneer of icons which has replaced the extremely logical and helpful START menu which has disappeared along with the system menu on the lower left .... just empty space there now. I could go on but others have already described the disaster better than i could.i gave the whole package 2 stars mainly because of the dystopian OS filled with self-updating bloatware and the cringy little hardware package that is all it will ever be, but mostly because Win11 is so regressive, obtuse, and confounding when it should have been straightforward and sensible.ADDENDUM june 28 2023 after using this hardware for a while i notice quite a lot of lag in the GPU especially on things like comment boards and vigorous discussion threads....the graphics processor struggles and lags and there are 2 and 3 second delays while i watch a blank screen try update a comment.................this sort of thing is OK for putzing around like i do and stuff is not important....but its a lot different from my cheap old basic ACER desktop with the ancient entry level $59 nVidia graphics card, it was much quicker..............so i subtracted one more star because this whole setup is just a one star deal for retired kibbitzers like me....i'd send it back but its a hassle and the machine does perform in a minimal brutalist sort of way....if i was richer i would have bought better
