A truly awful user experience to install it
By Jesse Rorabaugh on Reviewed in the United States on February 15, 2023
An awful user experience to install it. What should have been one button which says download took more than an hour because they are trying to sell you more products instead of trying to make this one work. First they force you to make a Microsoft account for every computer, fine it is a multiplayer game. Except for no good reason they don't accept a plus sign in the email account. Great the email address I have used for years doesn't work even though a plus sign is a totally acceptable symbol for an email address. The only reason they would go through the trouble of removing it is to remove one of the best features of Gmail. More time wasted finding an alternative email address. Finally have an email address and made the account for the kid. Put the code from Amazon into the box. Now where is the download button. Oh, there isn't one. It took me to a page with a button asking me to buy the game I just purchased! Flail around a little more. Now there is a button which says get the game. I press it. Nothing happens. Press it again, nothing happens. After flailing around a while longer I had the silly idea to try Edge instead of Chrome. Since they were vindictive enough to break a Gmail feature I figured they might also be silly enough to build a site which doesn't work with another google product. Sure enough, in Edge I can download it! Even then they added extra un-necessary steps for the sole purpose of selling things to my kids but at least those steps worked. Seriously though that was a low blow Microsoft, just make your product work with Chrome and Gmail! Another really poorly implemented feature is cross platform play. It never remembers who the friends are so I am constantly having to re-search for them and it does not seem to remember my Microsoft account so I am constantly having to come and re-log in for the kids so they can play with their cousin. It also is unusable if anyone doesn't have an email account. This is really a pain if you have kids. For example, I can't let my 4 year old play with me on the PC and her on the switch unless I make her a Microsoft account! This wouldn't be so bad if they let me use a plus sign with my gmail so it would just use my email account for my kid but again, Microsoft hates Google so I have to deal with making an email account for someone who can't even read email! Edit: Wow, this really is the most frustrating game I have ever tried. Now I can't play with my kids on PC because Microsoft updated one of the computers and not the other two. Wasted almost an hour trying to find a way to update the software. Really? They don't just have an easily found button to update?
