Get used to having to troubleshoot this printer to get it back online
By Pandere Shoes on Reviewed in the United States on June 19, 2023
I'm giving this product a 5 star review because otherwise it will end up not being seen. The printer quality is great. Setup was easy but I ended up returning this item because of the issue described below. HP has a big problem with this printer. Other reviewers mentioned it. I was hoping it wouldn't become an issue for me but it became impossible to print at all. The printer goes offline pretty much every day. If you hit the Wrench tool (diagnostic tool) it goes back online about 50% of the time with no fuss. However, the diagnostic tool takes at least 5-10 min to run. So this really slows you down when you're in a hurry to print. The other 50% of the time I ended up just giving up and coming back later or sending the print job to Office Depot because I didn't have time to troubleshoot. If the diagnostic tool doesn't get you back online, they send you further into a relationship with AI robots to diagnose the problem. The robot mostly tells you to do things that you've already done, like turn the printer off and restart it and to run the diagnostics tool. FYI, the robot knows that a printer offline is the number one issue because it's the first option presented in every screen. This tells you a lot about how BIG this problem actually is. After you've gotten past those hurdles, the diagnostic tool will ask you to download something called HP Print and Scan Doctor for Windows. Scan Doctor has been running for about 15 min now with no fix --- I tried to find another way to reach HP but everything goes to AI robots. So, printer is getting packed up and returned. Sad cause it was a good printer - when it worked. Not sure why HP doesn't allow for a pass through to tech support when none of the diagnostic tools solve the problem.

Do yourself a favor, pick it up locally.

This is a nice printer with a few annoyances. I thought that I might escape the issues that came with ordering from Amazon but I guess not. This review reflects that specifically. The first thing I noticed after unboxing and lifting the scan lid was there were fingerprints all over the scan bed. Secondly, I can tell that the lemming who had the printer before used something sharp to try and open the tray covering the ink because of the noticeable puncture in the plastic which was.....................................just...............wow. It is incredibly easy it is to open that flap. The next thing I did with my "new printer" was look up the warranty via the serial number. I found that it was already more than a month into it. Not cool when I've only had the printer for 2 days. I initially went the easy route of using the HP+ software, opting out of the nonsense they try to promote with the ink. Don't do it. It's more hassle than its worth and certain printer functions are locked to that program and should you choose to use any third party items with the printer. It's not happenin. Although this should have been simple, it annoyed me that I couldn't use any other scan app other than what was in HP+. Every time I tried I received the blue screen you see in the image. Scans would go through if only using the HP+ app and that using the program requires an account setup. Yes, it is loud at times too. It feels like the dang machine is about to transform into an decepticon or something. A hot mess for something so "modern". It is being returned though because it was used when I purchased it new. You never know what people do. After all that drama, I picked up the printer locally and set it up again sans fingerprints, full warranty and other random annoyances from the first one. This is the roundabout way of setup because of what HP decided to do with their printers. This is to use it without hp+/account setup with all features available. 1. Once you get to the startup screen it will ask you for the language, choose it 2. You'll get to the screen where they want you to go to 123hp bla bla bla. Instead, I went to the hp website looked up the printer model and downloaded the offline "easy start" app along with the drivers for scan and fax 3. Hooked up the printer via usb cable 4. Ran the app setup the printer through USB 5. Now that the qr screen is bypassed and the main page is being displayed, I initiated the wireless setup. You can also plug an ethernet cable in if that's your thing. 6. When easy setup app is ran, it should find the printer after its added to your network. Continue the setup. 7. Update the firmware. 8. Scans and prints (fast) successfully. I don't have a need for the fax function so couldn't test that. A meh experience overall but the printer is on sale and the same as the 9015 so whatever. Do yourself a favor and pick it up locally. At least in the store, you can check the warranty/condition to ensure that it still has the default of 1 year by entering the serial number (which is on the box) into the warranty search while you are at the store prior to buying it.
