Best Bang For The Buck Tablet
By BG on Reviewed in the United States on June 17, 2025
Surprisingly snappy and nice given the price point. Usually, lower-end tablets tend to be laggy, have poor resolution screens, and/or low/slow storage, but this actually feels more premium than you'd expect. I don't plan on playing games on it, but it does play the few I've tried smoothly. The screen, while not IPS, is still quite nice. Plenty bright and doesn't look washed out as most lower-priced screens tend to be. And the 1920x1200 resolution is nice too. Text looks crisp and clear. Many lower-end tablets cheap out on the resolution and I think 1080 is the absolute lowest acceptable resolution on a screen this size, so 1200 is pretty good. I chose the version with 8GB RAM because I didn't want it to make up for lack of memory by using storage (many cheap tablets do this), which is slower than RAM and wears out the flash storage faster. But my daughter has the version with 4GB of RAM and it seems to work pretty good too. She hasn't really stressed it so I would suspect it would not do as well with memory-intensive apps, or frequently switching between many apps. The additional SDCard storage capability is good if you want to put a bunch of music and videos/movies for a trip. It will NOT use the SDCard to augment/add to internal storage though - meaning, you can't set it to install most apps to it. You CAN set the cameras to store to the SDcard though, so that'll help save internal storage space if you plan to take a lot of pics/vids. I put in a 256GB card pre-formatted as exFat and it read it fine. You can either have the tablet format a fresh card, or do it on a PC beforehand. My main purpose for this is a bedside e-book reader, and the battery management feature on this is a HUGE plus. Since it is plugged in pretty much all the time, the battery would sit at 100% constantly. Well, that's not healthy for a battery. But this tablet has an intelligent battery management that will automatically set the max charge percentage for you if it sees it being plugged in all the time, or allows you to manually set the max charge percentage. Mine is set to 80%, which is good for battery longevity. It also lets you disable fast-charging, which tends to stress the battery, so it's best to disable it if you don't really need it. My Samsung phone (s24) has these features too, but a phone sees much more off-charger use, so it's not as useful in my opinion. Another minor feature I find handy is the ability to double-tap the screen to turn it on. This saves wear and tear on the physical button. Most newer devices have this feature, so probably a minor thing, but my old tablet didn't have it and it's a nice feature to have. I honestly think the A9+ is the sweet spot between price, performance, and features. The price is attractive and you really aren't sacrificing or compromising on much. Sure, it maybe can't compete against a high-end tablet, but at less than half the price, that's fine with me. And if you *need* a high-end tablet, you might as well spend a few extra dollars for a full laptop.

Screen is dying at 4-months, Samsung does NOT honor 12-month warranty (bought Dec. 2024)
By Always on a Budget on Reviewed in the United States on April 18, 2025
I bought this Samsung A9+ December 2024, from Amazon (the seller) NOT one of their vendors that would void a warranty for not being an 'authorized' Samsung seller, as a Christmas gift for myself and didn't begin using it until mid-January 2025. I also bought a nice sturdy silicone and plastic case for this tablet off Amazon like I do for our Samsung Galaxy phones (we only buy Samsung phones) and a Samsung Tab Lite just in case any ever dropped, which would be onto our den carpet for the A9+. During the last 4-months, the A9+ has been kept in one room in my home and never dropped or abused. Yet, at just four months old, the A9+ screen started to develop an odd 1.5" x 1" stain on the screen (under the glass), so I sent it to Samsung using their free UPS label. Several days later, Samsung's outsourced tech service updated the status of my service request refusing to cover it under the 12-month warranty stating that there was physical damage. There had been NO physical damage whatsoever by me or my husband. I'm absolutely certain. My husband and I are the only people in our home and we're both responsible adults 40+ and he has never used that tablet. I even sent several photos of the tablet (front & back) including the screen to a Samsung representative I spoke with showing NO 'physical damage' along with photos I took as I carefully and securely packed up the tablet to send to Samsung with THEIR prepaid shipping label on an Amazon box. The glass is pristine, as is the entire outside of the tablet. The problem wasn't physical damage, it was 'stains' INSIDE the screen UNDER the glass. NOTE: Staining is one of the choices on the Samsung form when you request service through their website, so I'm certain this particular defect has happened to other customers, yet Samsung gaslights customers into insisting WE damaged our tablets! When I was shopping for this tablet in December 2024, I read A LOT of negative reviews about Samsung for this very issue with the screen that I'll admit I didn't believe at the time....I figured that the people complaining surely had to have dropped their tablets, but I believe them now....Samsung voids a warranty citing 'physical damage' or 'misuse', which is very convenient for Samsung not to cover defective products that result in a total loss for the consumer (I'm out $221.91...the cost of the tablet with tax and the $4 electronic waste fee). We own and gift A LOT of Samsung products, from a washer & dryer to six Galaxy cellphones over the years, in addition to a Tab A Lite and TWO Galaxy watches. Sadly, I doubt I can ever convince myself to buy another Samsung product ever again 😟 due to the defective A9+ and horrible customer service...basically calling me a liar when I was honest in stating that we didn't damage the tablet in any way. This is our second Samsung tablet. The first one is a Galaxy Tab A Lite that we use with our Concept2 Rowing Machine, since 2023. It works great, which is why I decided to get the A9+ for various reasons including Kindle Books and quick browsing in our den. Huge mistake that I found out the hard way. I've since checked Consumer Reports and see that Lenovo tablets and Apple ipads EARN higher review ratings, overall, than Samsung. I'm a diehard Windows PC and android user so I'm not sure I would ever get an ipad, therefore, I looked at the Lenovo tablets. I'm not all that familiar with Lenovo, other than the company was the manufacturer of IBM products years ago, and I'm typing right now on a refurbished/renewed Lenovo 15" laptop that I bought on Amazon in 2023 that works great! I've decided it's time to switch brands...and this isn't a bluff. I recently ordered, and received a Lenovo Tab Plus direct from Lenovo because Amazon didn't have any available being sold BY Amazon (only had those being sold by outside vendors which aren't considered 'authorized sellers' by most manufacturers), otherwise, I would have bought the Tab Plus here. Back in early December (2024), I had considered getting the Lenovo Tab Plus, but the A9+ cost slightly less so unfortunately, I went with that instead. Really stupid move on MY part...because the Lenovo Tab Plus has TWICE the storage as the A9+, in addition to a larger screen, twice the speakers (and they're better!), and has PC Mode AND Android Mode, just to name a few features. Thanks Samsung...thanks a lot for showing me what you're made of πŸ˜’ before I invested any more $$$$ in your products.
